Are Toshiba notebooks comparable to XPS/MacBooks in terms of build quality?

toshiba notebooks r famous for their build quality, they are as good as XPS notebooks. i have had my Qosmio for quite some time now and no paint pealing off no dents no scratches i use it very roughly and yes i carry it around allot but no problems regarding build quality

Akshit as few others have suggested... Get a decent lappy with a small screen size... You will eventully buy a desktop for yourself. Spend good amount of money on that rather then splurging on a faster notebook. Big lappies are a pain to carry and they consume more power. Dont buy a lappy with a faster gfx as they will be power hoggers and will heat up in no time.

If i were you i would buy a slim and a feature rich ultra portable lappy and save rest for a fast desktop system with a bigger monitor.

Grab a Macbook blindly mate. The best flexibility and Macs are VERY popular in the US, so you wouldn't have to miss out on that nifty app your roommate got or the iChat sessions in class ;)

^^No reason to be dramatic. It isn't like you can't get the drive replaced. Heck, most of us could open the notebook and do the hard drive replacement ourselves. I've done it for a friend's 17" PowerBook G4 and well, it wasn't a piece of cake, but it wasn't something awfully tedious either. So please try not to exaggerate the situation.

Besides, if it's a general purpose notebook, that is mostly for internet surfing and for use with Office apps like Word, Excel and Powerpoint, then no, there isn't going to be a big difference between a 5400rpm and a 7200rpm hard drive in terms of performance. Possible 10-15% at the most.

if it is a general purpose notebook , then you dont need to buy one with such high specs , buy a sub 1000$ dollar notebook from hp/dell/acer and load it with xp and hackintosh/iATKOs (if you dont want to miss on "that nifty app your roommate got or the iChat sessions in class" :P)

A friend is buying a Fujitsu tablet...about 63k...decent config. will post details tomo.

I'd say go for a tablet if you taking it for classes.

A Macbook will run Windows a LOT smoother and faster than a HP/Dell/Acer will run the modded OSX.

Don't forget, the Macbook Pro was rated as the best performing laptop to run Vista on ;)

Bah. Can't possibly afford a Macbook Pro.

The problem is, the Macbook is for $1300, and I can get a bloody absolutely-top-of-the-line Inspiron for that much ... But then, a Macbook is a Macbook :P :S

hmm even I'm looking for a lap, dell xps 1310 looks perfect except the gfx card which on 1530 seems better.......but i am undecided between 13.3 and 14.1 screen size and 14.1 no xps series is there......

Any ideas about macbook availiability @ bangalore?

Arya fujitsu tablet is available in India?
