So a friend of mine wants to buy headphones (not IEMs/earphones) with budget of 5.5k.

Last I heard Audio Technica something was one of the best for SQ. What are the best headphones in that budget now a days? Pop, Rock, etc music. No trance.

There are two threads in audio section with similar requests.

One for 5k

Another for a 7k one.

Have a look and see if you find anything useful

Koss Porta Pro - 4k in India. 2k elsewhere.

For muddy bassheadphones- Sony XB-500, KLIPSCH Image One

For open headphones

AT. AD700 at 6odd k is really good

man... there are a hundred topics going around for headphones in this budget range.. check out the threads from PristineNote..

i myself bought AudioTechnica AD700 from them couple of months back. very very comfy headphones.. excellent sound quality and detail. but if you're a bass head, you will be dissapointed. .. the headphones have the bass but it doesnt go all boom boom boom in your ears. .. its a more neutral sound..

for the rock music and everything, they are really awesome. i mean there are a couple of rock songs that get a whole new thing to them.. in many songs with the distortion guitar solo riffs, these headphones have the potential to produce excellent detail. i mean, i can literally make out the growling texture in the guitar sounds.. in my previous headphones, it was just all mixed up distortion guitar, but with these, i can clearly listen to the fine growl or texture of the sound. really cool.

and for rock songs, the Grado''s come highly recommended. i wont elaborate on them. you can get all the info and discussion on it in this forum.. they are one of the most popularly discussed headphones here and for good reason too. although i havent personally heard them.. and thats why i didnt buy them. .they were something new for me so wanted to hear them before buying..

plus, the audio technicas looked really comfortable.. which i wanted.. and i also wanted full size earcups..

check out the threads here. .you really dont need to start a new one for headphones in this budget..

^^^just like AD700s, Sennheiser HD518 are also neutral and super comfy, and obviously awesome in sound department, also consider them

but Audio technicas have reely long wires !!! 11 feet of wire in M35 will make it a PIA while traveling ..
