ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH! WHY CFX DOESN'T WORK FOR ME?I HAVE TRIED MANY DRIVERS,CURRENTLY USING THE LATEST BETA DRIVER WITH LATEST CAP PROFILE....
i recently bought this 5970 from the TE market itself...without having any first hand experience with ATI/AMD GPU products before...i first tried playing nfs mw(new one) with it and it gave me pathetic performance(i game at 1360x768,a res at which i hoped this 5970 would give me solid 60 fps with all games),i searched around and found that mw has horrible cfx scaling so i stopped worrying about this, then i played AC3 same thing(again thought this was the game's problem),in bf3 i suffer from horrible lags..(i do see that good for nothing cfx logo),and today i played hitman absolution, benchmarked it with ultra preset, msaa disabled,at 1360x768,and guess what my avg. fps are?paltry 34!!WTF?(is this because of my cpu?its a fx 8120 clocked at 4.5Ghz,surely it can drive games at my res, can't it?),the real reason for me being mad is that when I ALT+enter out of the game(and the cfx supposedly stops working, like it ever began in the first place) the fps i get are 31-32,so cfx gives me 2 fps more?,also i searched around on the net,and found someone with 2600k(at 4.9Ghz) using 2x 6970,with the same game settings, but res of 1920 x 1200,and getting 54 avg. fps!!!(now of course 2 x6970 is better than 2 x 5870,but should it give 20 more fps at HD res when i am at a paltry res?)also my 5970 is oc'ed to 950/1200 clocks, but this only adds to my woes.

Have you tried turning off the Morphological AA feature?
Also, please test with some proper benchmarks. If the game itself is running badly, it might be time for an OS reinstall.
Reading benchmarks, I see that the FX series are outclassed (in gaming) by the intel i5 series
Benchmark Results: Crysis 2 : AMD Bulldozer Review: FX-8150 Gets Tested (as an example)

. So that isn't what you should compare with. Rather compare with the same
or similar performance AMD (nearly) CPU and the same GFX card so you have a better idea of what performance you should be getting.

morphological filtering is already turned off

Bump up the resolution, at-least 720p for starters.

As you keep depressing the resolution, the performance onus shifts to the CPU and in that department FX series processors are not really strong performers.

Reset everything to stock so that no discrepancies turn up whilst trouble-shooting.

Assassin's Creed III and BattleField 3 are nVidia sponsoring titles, don't expect good performance there, heck my HD5770 has issues running this,

^^ Characters not displaying, poor textures and jaggy shadows -- nVidia sponsored title.

Multi - GPU really works best when you are at 1080pi or more. Else you will not notice much of a difference between 1 or 2 cores firing on the accelerator. Also have you installed the ATI Profiles package. That is important.

ohk so guys i checked usage of both my gpu's while various games with cfx on...and i found out that currently only one game uses both my gpu's more than 50% simultaneously, black ops2,other than that games like bf3 and hitman only use 50% of both my gpu's simultaneously and so i get similar performance to using only one gpu, does this mean that i should increase the res?

Has been talked about a million times:

At low resolutions, the processing penalty of Crossfire negates any gain offered by adding the second card.

We have repeatedly advised people to not invest in Crossfire below 2048x or 2560x resolutions. Even at 1920x (NOT 1080p video format as this resolution is referred to erroneously) the benefit of Crossfire is doubtful unless cranking up all detail to max, and then only in games that are handled well at those resolutions.

A simple search would have saved you a lot of money and the heartache.

thanks for the reply cranky, and i just tested metro 2033(free from that fb campaign) and amazingly this game uses both my gpu's nearly 100% at 1360 x 768!!,i can max it out easily with awesome fps!!,so cranky what you are saying is that if i increase my res to about HD and above, the games which are not using cfx currently(like hitman and bf3) will at least start using it and i will be able to appreciate my setup?if yes then i can go at those res since i have a 32 inch hd capable TV.. cranky, thanks again, also can anyone tell me why some games are using cfx at my res(like black ops2 and metro 2033) but some are not using it properly?i will try playing all my games at 1920 x 1080 tommorow and if cfx works properly...mods mark this thread solved!!

Only games that are Crossfire compatible will show increases. Those that don't will lag and stutter badly (worse than single card), and you will have to create custom profiles for them and disable Crossfire on the profile settings.

Both Crossfire and SLI are not usable with every known game/setting/resolution out there, therefore requiring profiles.

I would expect Metro to use a lot of resources. However the only time you realise the benefits of the large investment of money, power and heat is when you have more than one monitor or a very large one - lots of pixels, lots of graphics workload. For a single 1920x monitor a single card is probably a better choice.

ATI's support of xfire profiles can be a little fail from time to time. I keep toying with the idea of xfire since im using ATI cards now, ive had a good experience with SLI. You are at the mercy of drivers with sli/xfire setup, bad performance in certain games is just bad drivers it has nothing to do with your resolution etc(but maybe im wrong test at 1080p ). Look for xfire profile for your specific game and try those.

I use my 7770 CF setup with 1080P all the time but it fails once in a while, for a recent example Far cry 3 got stuck in MAP section twice customer care told me to upgrade the game to 1.03 and use the latest drivers.

Non the less i am getting good frame rate with it now which was not true with the old drivers.

How are your thermals? Is anything throttling?
And is your PSU powerful enough to handle your rig?
Are your drivers updated?
