I have shortlisted two laptops from Dell, India . Specs are :

DELL 6400

Intel C2D 5200 1.6mhz
512mb ram
80GB SATA
15.4WXGA
Intel 950
WI-FI, Bluetooth
6 cell battery
8X DVD Drive
Weight 2.7kg
Win Vista Basic
Nylon Bag----------------------Approx 47000

DELL 1501

AMD Turion MK36
512mb ram
80GB SATA
15.4WXGA
ATI Radeon Shared graphics
WI-FI,No Bluetooth
6 cell battery
CD/DVD Combo
Weight - 2.9kg
Free Dos
No Bag----------------------Approx 36000

What should I get? Difference of nearly 11000. My needs are web browsing, Office apps , watching movies/music, dragon and some photoshopping. Will the AMD be able to handle all this or should I invest more to get a C2D?

Thanks

I have 6400 Dual core- & I can only suggest that in interest of battery life & performance in general Core2Duo is unbeatable. Now U R getting a free upgrade to 1 GB DDR2 RAM & Free Upgrade to DVD Burner, which makes 6400-core2duo a good bargain at 47kplus VAT. Another suggestion- ring up Dell India 1800- 425- 4026 Toll Free & while placing the order BARGAIN HARD- they do sometimes bargain ( bargain for additional 1 year warranty ! ) , though i purchased mine in USA but bargained hard on fone.

^^ As Vijay said, but DO NOT go for the T5200, instead look for T5500 atleast.

The FSB for T5200 is limited to 533 whilst its 667 for T5500.

But:

1. To be very honest, the things that you've listed, even the AMD config is good enough to handle that..Just add another 512 stick ;)

2. Are you sure about the 15.4" screen? The 14" would give you the best of both worlds..Portability & Performance! And at Czar's price, I think its a gr8 gr8 offer.. :)

Cheers!!

Thanks for ur replies.

Is there too much difference 14.1" v/s 15.4". Also, I have heard that long working on the 14" screen can be tiring.

I also want 3.5-4 hrs of backup. Can I get the same on Dell 9 cell battery. What is better for that AMD or C2D.

Thanks
