Guys,
need some help here

the corsair 4GB drive takes an unbelievable amount of time to copy or write to the drive

say, i copy 3GB of office data(too many folders/files), it takes about 40-45 mins to copy them
and around the same amount of time to copy from the pendrive to laptop

Even format take 4-5 mins
whereas it happens like a breeze on my Sandisk Cruzer 2GB, format happens in 10 secs (no quick)

surely something wrong here, has the pendrive gone kaput

read - writes are usually slow when a huge chunk is given to the pen drive and generally since a lot of files are involved it will be slow......measure it using HDTune and post results.

FAT32 format, but even the sandisk cruzer is FAT as well, but that read-write is way too faster

hence confused...

^^

fat will be faster here.

try copying single file weighing 2-3GB n c if results vary.

One query though... do u get speeds in intervals?? like some data get copied..then a delay n again copy...n so on...??

get the drive replaced if thats d case.

hey guys,

i got a corsair 8gb today and think am facing a similar situation:( or maybe im expecting to much from it.. ;) )

anyways the deal is i tried copying a 1.4gb file to it and it took close to 4mins&15secs to complete it. Have already formatted it to ntfs so is this speed normal or slow?

the new corsair with MLC chips are insanely slow.. and with large multiple files it takes ages to copy.. copy speed goes down to 1mb~ from its quickest capable 7~8mbps... so try adding all the folders to a single compressed rar or zip file and then transfer.. changing the file structure to ntfs or fat/fat32 won't help in this case..

I have a feeling that when my Corsair 8gb was new it used to write files much faster, now it stops and starts writing when I copy a number of small files.

Recently I copied a lot olf smallish files to this 8gb and when I connected it to a friends computer all the files seemed to have copied fine but none of the files ran - all gave errors !! :@ RMA TIME !!

shhh.... seems that corsair has gone the transcend's way... captured the market floatina good product and then making fast buck selling inferior product... so what are our new options for a fast drive... ocz verbatim or buffalo

I have a Buffalo 4GB drive which is way faster in handling small files compared to any of my Corsairs including my 16GB GT drive.

Eazy ur lucky ur buffalo flash drive hasn't conked off.. but one thing, they're very fast no matter how the files are split.. wish mine was still alive... its under warranty, but the main problem is dunno who to give it for replacement.. :P

Eazy sir, any help?

whats the block size/sector when formatted??.Assuming 4096 bytes.

tried with NTFS file system??.

type this in cmd prompt

FORMAT H: /FS:NTFS /A:16K

results in an NTFS drive with 16K block size.

M using this getting write of around 8-9MBps and read of 30MBps

I did found similar problem with my 4GB Corsair.

Copied 2.5GB worth data which had several files of various sizes.. darn task took 45mins :S

I almost fell asleep.

The task window kept showing variable speeds.. esp wen a subfolder was being copied.. the ETA seemed to jump exponentially..

But the pen drive runs movies fine wen i plug it into my DVD player..

Will see for a while.

Btw.. my pen drive was purchased wen the price was still 800/- for 4GB, Around June last year.

update: I converted my 8gb corsair into fat32 since the dvd player would not recognise ntfs. Even now im only getting write speeds of about 5mbps. Think theres anyway to improve this or am i stuck with this?
