hello guys :)

I am looking for upgrade from my current setup ATP3 paired with onboard realtek .So far i am very happy with the setup because i have not heard anything better :ohyeah: they sound good with trance music because of great bass response. But now i want try something upgrade - a clear step up from my current setup . Sound card is decided -Xonar .Now i want to decide 2.1 speaker

my requirements :
overall much improved sound from ATP3 - good midrange , crisp highs , good details without loosing bass punch of ATP3 .I listen mostly to trance music .Very less movies/games.

1) MX 5021 - seems to be fav choice here. It seems to have crisp highs and great midrange . What i am worried is its bass response . Many says its pretty weak and hence not suitable for music genre like trance .I want to know how is bass level of mx 5021 compared tp ATP3 ?

2) Klipsh Promedia 2.1 - Rahul agencies pune told me GMX is now discontinued and old pro media 2.1 will be available again at 11k from month end

3)Z-2300 it seems to have good bass but overall sound quality is not on par with MX so it does not seems to be worthy upgrade from ATP3

4) AE A2 - seems to have less bass due lack of sub

I am inclined towards mx 5021 but bass issue is worrying me . even if MX have 80 percent bass as that of ATP3 i will go for MX.Unfortunately i have not found any shop to get live demo for mx5021's .Please help me deciding right setup

The original promedias were supposed to be very good. Maybe you should hold off a bit and audition those.
MX5021 afaik the newer sets don't have the same quality as the original sets
Whats your budget for this upgrade ?

MX-5021 has good enough bass for trance/house/electronic music lovers. I've never had to increase the bass more than 1/5 or max 2/5 levels. :P If your budgets ~6-7k ,MX-5021 is the best option.

If you can spend more the AE2/AE5 could be good contenders but since they both are 2.0 ,I doubt you will cherish the sound without a sub.

my budget is max 11k for speaker . I read comparison of original promedia's and MX5021 .they seems to be neck to neck but promedia's have better bass.I am not sure they are 4.5 k more worth as compared to MX . Will try to audition them from Kilpsh dealer in Pune

^those are the older reviews, I remember reading them myself when I was contemplating buying speakers 3 years ago but the quality of the MX has really come down off late. It would be best if you could some how audition them yourself. Try asking TE members in your area. I'm sure you'd find people with an MX.
Don't bother about A2 and looks like A5 is out of your budget

your opinion will surely help as i know you are also trance lover :ohyeah:

Get the Promedia 2.1 if you feel the premium over the MX is worth it. Ensure that the set is not a refurb since it was discontinued quite a while. Wonder how your dealer is able to stock this set!

Besides, I'm not so sure on this but I read somewhere the volume/bass pots on the satellite speaker used to go kaput over a brief period of usage.

Pune has quite a few MXs including the older ones. You can audition those there. :P

even i read somewhere that SQ of MX have been deteriorated recently . But has anyone confirmed by doing side by side comparison with old model ? How worse is SQ of new MX model as compared to older model ? I am searching for TE member in Pune to audition MX .

the promedia 2.1 with the 240v power supply was discontinued, the 120v one was always available. not sure if whoever is getting it now is getting the 120v one with a transformer
plus volume pot that used to go bust was for the promedia 2.0, famous everywhere. 2.1 didn't have those issues afaik.

I think theres a thread here on TE somewhere comparing the old and new MX5021. one of the MX5021 modding threads

Ah yes, the volume pot issue was with the Promedia 2.0. Apologies!

Sam, just in case you go ahead with the Hlipsch, do post your impressions in the thread. :)
