Storage Solutions Help? DVD Writer not responding to CD

Hello Friends,

I have SONY DVD Writer (DRU800A) since last 3 yrs. no problem so far.

Suddenly today I found that DVD writer read/write DVD but fail to open any CD.

No driver/software update available for same writer, the one installed is latest.

How to rectify the problem? Any suggestion? Help?
 
Probably your drive is at the end of its life.

Same thing happened to my 3 year old LG DVD writer. I've upgraded firmware, changed cable and cleaned lens without any result. Lastly bought a new HP drive for 1200 Rs.

X-P PRO SP3, I found the problem few days after installing SP3 so may be problem because of... or Optical Drive near to it's end :(
 
^ my drives 4 yrs old and still churning out good quality writes. 3 yrs is nothing.

@OP, just restart your machine and see if the problem goes away.
 
same happened to my sony dvdrw. after it was 4yrs old. it finally stopped working completely one yr later.

be perpared to buy a new dvdrw
