CPU/Mobo HELP getting artifacts ! :S

my pc just turned a year old last week
you can see my config in my signature .

now i am having some issues ,
when i game for long hours like 2-3 hours i start getting artifacts
and i have to restart my pc to fix the problem .

also artifacts only come while gaming and when i close the game
videos and normal desktop also looks wierd(multicolored thick lines all over :S)
my friend told me that its because my gpu overheats .
but i dont think its the problem because my temps were 60C which are quite ok plus its a hawk edition .

Also once the artifacts come i cant run simple softwares also the pc slows up .
and cannot open any programs .

this seems quite weird as it cant be gpu's issue .

Last thing , i am using steelseries 5hv2 with usb soundcard .
while gaming sometimes my headpones go mute and i am not able to hear any
sound output at all be it gaming or songs .

i think either my mobo or my psu is the culprit .

could you help me find the culprit and tell if it is in warranty or not .

PS: i have recently upgraded to latest ATI catalyst control center .

monitor is fine as the pc slows up after artifacts (cant be monitors issue)

dont have a spare gpu but maybe if i use onboard instead (but then i wont be able to game for 2-3 hours to check if artifacts occur)

Actually whenever i start my pc it says catalys control centre was not installed sucessfully :S

i think i will uninstall take my gpu out , test pc on onboard for a few days

clean my gpu and put it back in 2-3 days and reinstall new drivers .

long process :S

Any other solutions ?
 
He must be running some p*** version of win7 sp1 .... Is it so? Thats the reason why he is not able to install catalyst properly... The same thing happened when I was installing 6790 in my friends system.

If the above is not an issue then run furmark and monitor the temps plz..
 
yea im running win7 sp1 .

but i reinstalled catalyst and i think it installed ok this time .

ill game 2-3 hours tomm and tell if the problem is solved or not .
