My seagate barracuda 80 hdd (6 years old) malfunctioned. It seems that head has broken (consistent clicking sound, no movement).
The problem is that data recovery people say to leave the HDD for 2-3 days. I am unable to do so as it contains confidential data.
Can you suggest a data recovery service, that repairs the HDD in front of me (Probably one can change the drive head, or else get the data backed up on my external HDD, I will then 'terminate' the old HDD)

Any estimates how much will it cost.

try contacting AmarBir he might help. He has mentioned elsewhere that he's got all the required tools to do this.

Doubt anyone will let you sit while they take what could be hours to repair the drive :P You will need to just give it to them.
 
yup there sure are exceptions.

did you contact amarbir? He is chandigarh, not far from delhi IMO, if your data is that critical i hope you wouldnt mind a little trip up north.
 
If you can afford and you need the data that badly then take it to a data recovery guy. If they change the heads of the HDD they will charge you the amount of a 80 GB HDD. Which is very high coz they crib about the availability and stuff. Anyway get a quote and then start from there.
