hi
i need to buy a notebook mainly for programming (java and Open GL).
can you tell me

1. ati radeon HD 4570 (512 vRAM ddr2) vs Nvidia 9200gs m(512 vRAM ddr2)
2.does p8600(2.4Ghz) perform way better than t6400(2.0Ghz)
3. Are HP laptops more sturdy than Dell? I heard Dell is prone to BSOD under Vista?
Please help me :)

1. HD 4570 > 9200M GS

I find www.notebookcheck.net has a good db (with 3dmark scores) of mobile graphic chipsets.

2.
P8600 | T6400

3MB L2 cache | 2MB L2 cache

1066MHz FSB | 800MHz FSB

25W TDP | 35W TDP
Draw your conclusions based on the price difference ;)

3. The BSOD under Vista sounds like an urban myth.

About the other query; comparing brands is rather vague - if you're comparing a 'series' within the brand, then it makes more sense. Having said that I find both brands are equally decent.

More importantly, do mention a budget for your laptop :)

ATI HD4570 is way more powerful than a 9200M GS.

I don't think there is too much of a difference. Still visit this page: Notebookcheck: Mobile Processors - Benchmarklist
and use the benchmarks to make up your mind.

If you plan on using your laptop only for programming and watching movies then I think even the Intel X4500M HD onboard graphics will be enough.

ATI 4570 would be an overkill for that kind of use.

thanks ppl :)
my budget is Rs 50,000/- (approx 960$)
i need the graphics card so that i can go deeper into graphics programming, so i think an accelerator may not suffice
i will be using this laptop for my Graduation in Computer Science for 3 more years.
also if you can add to the p8600 vs t6500/t6700 processor question i will be thankful
