I am looking for the following ebooks / novels for my kid. Can anybody help me to find them:

1. Nicholas Nikleby
2. Emma
3. Shelock Holmes : The Norwood Mystery
4. The Moonstone
5. The Count of Monte Cristo
6. The Secret Agent
7. Great Expectation
8. Oliver Twist

Thanks in advance.

Why would you deny your kid the pleasure of holding a REAL book?
All of these should be very easy to find in your neighborhood bookstore if not the library.

Thanks for the help. But can anybody tell which of these books is the best / interesting which must be read by kids.....

how old is he/she ? And does he/she do some reading already ? In the given list, I would always recommend start with abridged version of Monte Cristo/Oliver Twist with illustrations. You wont find ebooks for the same, but will have to opt for paper versions by Illustrated Classis/wilco etc.

Dont hand them over the original versions at the beginning. That might end up killing any interest they have for books.

My son is 10 1/2 yrs old. I don't want to end his interest which has yet to start. But which book should i start with (as the above is his holiday homework to read any of these books and make notes). I was not able to find abridged version of Monte Cristo.

My kid who is now 11yrs, started reading at the age of 8. I made him to start with famous five and secret seven series, which he loved. Then slowly I steered him into classics like Sherlock Holmes, Charle Dickens, Jack London etc. He loved all most all of them. Then he got into Harry Potter and like wise the contemporary ones - Twilight series, Dragon series, Goosebumps and of late into Stephen King.

Currently he is so addicted to reading story books that I have started worrying as it may hamper his regular studies.

Gist is that try to get an idea about your kid's liking from his behavior and start teasing him with books on variety of fields -horror, adventure, comedy etc. After that he himself will start picking up. Yeah, may be sometimes you steer him into some good classics just to make him appreciate good writings.

@rohitshakti2, you can add treasure island to that list of your. Better give your kids hard copy to read, soft copy for them might be harmful for their eyes as they are kids :)

well, if most book sellers will call it classics in easy english, or illustrated version. Even if you are not able to get monte cristo in abridged version, you definitely will be able to find oliver twist. Start with that. It is also pretty good, though personally I think Monte Cristo will interest a average kid more due to the colorful nature of its story.

You might as well pickup a couple of Enid Blytons as manoja2k did with his kid. They are books which are highly readable, short and simple. Though be warned, once you get your kids hooked to books, you will have a though time getting them to study :D Happened with me, with my sis, and till date, I cant really go to sleep without having something to read.

Btw, flipkart seem to have a abridged version of Monte Cristo.

Flipkart.com: The Count Of Monte Cristo: Alexandre Dumas, Robin H. Waterfield (9780140373530)

To tell you the truth, at present my kid is using Nook to read all his story books. I have downloaded innumerable free classics from P. Gutenberg, B&N classics and loaded onto the nook, Besides many commercial best sellers of horror and adventure genre. He does not seem to be getting eye strain and neither do I (I use Infibeam's PI) for my personal reading. I hardly get an opportunity read books in Nook b'cos my son is not ready to relinquish it.

Only thing that I get worried about is he is developing a tendency to neglect his study (just like I did in my school days).

having a eink reader is way different from reading on a laptop/computer/lcd based reader. I do all my reading on Kindle and never miss a paper book. But not everyone might be ready to invest almost 7-8k for a eink based reader which does a single job and when compared to any lcd based reader/computer, I will say I would prefer a paper book. I never felt much of eye strain on lcd based reader but thing is they tend to be a bit too bulky and you cant really go without charging for more than a day or so even with devices like Nook Color.

You could try downloading the EPUB edition from the same site mentioned in the link. It opens with Adobe Digital Editions, looks like PDF, is easier to read and gives you the ability to bookmark pages

You can also find human read and computer read audio books of of the books you mentioned here . Link

Except with CRTs you wont feel much of an eye strain in any of the other type of screens . I have read from a wide variety of screen types and sizes and most of the time i have read them in one go . what i did find is that there is not a huge difference between an ebook reader like Pi and my 3inch touch screen (ebooks do drain your phone battery quickly).Though i make it a point to always increase the font size to large before reading them.
But in the end nothing beats a proper (paper) book. I still prefer them if given a choice.

Globusz is an excellent free ebook website out there. There is a category esp. for childrens where you can download free ebooks from different authors.

Free eBooks by Globusz Publishing - Children's Books
1. Nicholas Nikle -
2. Emma - EMMA by Jane Austen
3. Shelock Holmes : The Norwood Mystery -
4. The Moonstone - THE MOONSTONE ~ A Romance by Wilkie Collins - CONTENTS
5. The Count of Monte Cristo - The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
6. The Secret Agent - Table of Contents
7. Great Expectation -
8. Oliver Twist - OLIVER TWIST OR THE PARISH BOY'S PROGRESS by Charles Dickens

You can read all these online or even can download as PDF. I'd suggest you take a print out of these and give your child a hard copy to read. :)

Any other sources of free eBooks - forums where eBooks are discussed, etc.? It'd be a good source for eReader users.
