Velociraptor in Raid 0 NOT recommended -> coz EXTREME failure rate.
Total non-sense!
Any drive can go conked and there could be a lot of reasons associated with the failure - electrical, mechanical, f/w issue, heat buildup, yada yada.
AFAIK the V'raptors were a lot better than their predecessors and considering that the present day SLC/MLC SSD drives haven't matured enough, a v'raptor still seems to be a vfm buy taking into regard the cost/MB.
The drive runs a bit hotter than the usual hard-drive but that's natural for a 2.5" drive that runs at 10k rpm.
Besides, any 2 identical drives put up in a RAID 0 config has a high risk of failure. Isn't that usual?
@OP: Why the EVGA X58
Classified may I ask? You may not end up using 10% of the BIOS tweaking options that EVGA has given with the board. The board's supposed to be a bencher's wet-dream come true but at an appreciably high expense considering most good X58 boards retail at the 17k mark and unless you can have someone from the US carry one for you, this'd end up creating a crater in your pocket if you get it via the KMD route (@70Rs INR against a $ = 35000 Rs?).
Lol, you can build a whole i7 rig for that price!
Like Roboghost's suggested, get a Gigabyte X58 UD5. It should cost you not more than 17k and thereabouts.
