Laptops HELP : laptop < 55K, DDR3

My cousin is in Mumbai and he wants to buy a lappy before 10th.
He stays in a Hostel at Nagpur, he has selected 3D max as addition subject to his B.Tech (Chem).

  1. What's your Budget?
    50, max 55K
  2. What will be your primary usage for the notebook be?
    web surfing, learning 3D max, Casual Gaming, 720p movies. 6 cell battery should be sufficient
  3. What size and weight considerations do you have?
    15.6" screen size, weight = should not be too heavy,no need for slim model though. Most of the time it's going to stay in the room only.
  4. Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest?
    total noobs. no idea. Good A S S and build quality. eg after 1-2 yrs keyboard fails, dvd-rw fails etc
    Some say Lenovo has better build quality. Don't know if true.
  5. Any other considerations?
    DDR3 for better upgrade-ability.

    Most prefered is "No need for OS. Lappy should not have any original OS. Don't wanna waste money on it as, Linux might be prefered."

sony vaio is good but not as VFM as others.
small screen, small hdd, etc. But in terms of looks , it's a killer

anything else???
 
there's a sony 14 incher with a t6670 2gb ddr3 250gb hdd and a 256mb nvidia g210m for 41k -- don't remember the model number.

alternatively there's the sony vaio 14 incher at croma with a p8700 4gb ddr3 windows 7 professional 512mb g230/240m 320gb hdd @57k

other than sony you can configure your own dell but it would cost you more than 45-50k.
 
an HP DV6 with a AMD turion (dont remember model no.) is a good option...its Rs47k incl tax and has 1GB 4650.
 
lenovo Ideapad Y550 is good, but availibility might be a problem
Prime said it's difficult to find one and told me to call on Monday.

recently, I have purchased an HP DV-6 Pavilion 1152tx (black) laptop with Windows vista home premium Intel Core2duo Processor, 500gb hard disk, ATI Radeon 4650 graphic card, inbuilt Finger print reader, remote control and many more features.

Purchased date is 21st Aug, 09 at Rs.61500/- . Since I am moving towards West Indies next month, i want to sell it to someone who love and needs hp laptop.

In addition, I can give you BELKIN laptop cooler stand worth rs.1450 and Hp pen drive 8gb worth rs.815. I had ordered windows 7 official from hp during some promotion offer, I mean you can enjoy latest operating system !

whatever the market rate would be, you can consider that only.
