I have this Toshiba laptop which i have mentioned before. It had got this bad sector HDD and i went ahead to install windows 7 on this machine.
Initially while installing, the setup mentioned that the harddisk will fail and advised me not to install windows on this machine. But still i forced it to install the OS.
Now i have few drivers already available for this laptop (vista actually) but on installing the OS i found that most of the drivers came itself. Then there was this one EXE file in my drivers folder named "PSLC8-PSLE8-180-WIN.exe" which is supposedly some BIOS flashing thing. My toshiba satellite laptop is of model no. PSLC8C-01N019 so i know i think whenever i had downloaded this was for this laptop only (name was ). The flashing thing did not allow any intervention and i had to flash it (since i had already executed the file). It went fine and OS restarted but now it refused to boot into windows and gave me option to repair or start windows normally. When doing repair, it gave me a window saying
A hard disk problem is preventing windows from starting
There was a pop up also with label "Startup Repair" and under View problem details i said.
I did a cancel on this screen and there was this hyperlink type thing which said "View Diagnostic and repair details" and when i clicked that it gave me
I have a strong feeling that BIOS update went fine since after computer start i am able to get into BIOS and also am able to see it is the newer version.
There is this link i found with same issue but not of much help.
Has my HDD failing in co-incidence with installation on windows 7 or is Win 7 is intolerant towards bad hdd and renders the laptop useless ?
I am now trying to install windows vista again and see if my laptop comes back to life

HERE IS AN UPDATE......
I again reinstalled Windows 7 on the same laptop and the installation went fine and i am able to boot in win 7 on this laptop :S
So i think it is just that the HDD is many a times reporting the failure stuff and not allowing the boot to happen thus rendering the laptop useless for that time period.
Btw how do i confirm that the drivers were automatically installed ?? Device manager ??
Under device manager i am able to see
Display Adapters -> ATI radeon 3100 Graphics
Network Adapters -> Atheros AR5007EG Wireless network adapter
Realtek RTL8102E/RTL8103E Family PCI-E Fast ethernet NIC
Processor for some reason shows two entries as
AMD Athlon (tm) X2 Dual Core QL 60
Under sound, video and game controllers it says "High definition audio device" (need to install any drivers ???)

Now the main question is that all was working well before when vista was installed and only after windows 7 was installed this thing came in. From whatever the logs say, it looks like HDD failed which was very well expected.Startup Repair diagnosis and repair log
