Help me choose an UPS for my current rig

Hi...

please help me choose an ups for atleast 15 mins backup for the current rig mentioned below

amd 555BE + gigabyte 785gmt + 4 gig ddr3 ram
msi hd5770 + 2 x 1tb hdd + 1 dvd rw running on corsair 450vx

24inch lcd + creative t6060 speakers

please suggest.. does any ups provide auto windows shut down and then auto power on in case of a load shedding / power cut?

regards
neo

Hmm!!

Corsair 450VX

the load power draw from your psu is around 300w(overestimated on purpose)

(according to your config)

since the psu is 80% efficient

it should draw (300/80)x100v from ups

i.e.. 375w power is needed from ups at load

now considering that you will connect your lcd monitor to the ups too,

let us increase it by 40-50watts

i.e..415w at load

therefore

since the real world power factor correction of ups is 0.7(worst case scenario)

therefore

(415/0.7)=592 va

thus i would say the APc 650va should pretty much cover your rig's ass !:D

i fact any good ups rated above 600va would do the job

but APC 650va is the one you are looking for :)

did you find my calculations helpful?:)

awesome saurav... i needed exactly that... power calc...

so apc it is... es 650 model... also does anyone hav idea of auto shut and start based on power failure...

afaik the apc autoshutdown, auto hibernate, feature is available APC 650va onwards :)

it is facilitated by a nifty piece of application by apc which runs on windows 7 (and vista maybe)

650va should do almost everything you can ask of a budget ups and more!!

so i would say you are pretty much bailed out of your dilemma :D

Oops didn't see this post as it came in after i replied...

If you want the UPS to be controlled then you have the PowerChute software, with which you can tell the UPS to hibernate ur machine, provide power when the voltage goes up/down below a mentioned point say 260/200 V etc...
