Hi Guys

I need to buy a laptop for home use, nothing too advanced just enough to browse, play good videos, simple games etc. At the same time good value for money and the most important factor is it should be reliable. I dont want to spend a fortune on an i7 which fails in 6 months but would rather have an i3 which lasts for a few years. I have chosen these four models. Could you please give me your suggestions? I like the Asus X53SC . But never heard much about Asus before. Anyone one who owns the same or other Asus models could you also advise me about the general reliability of Asus laptops. Since I want a reliable machine should I prefer Asus over other known brands like dell\lenovo

Please answer the following questions for others to help you out better.

 • What will be your primary usage for the notebook be? surfing, movies, home use
 • What size and weight considerations do you have? a desktop replacement
 • Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest? Any brand that is known to reliable. Would not prefer unknown brands
 • Any other considerations? none

Go for the Dell Vostro from the above models OR HP G6 1313AX. The advantages of the HP laptop are --
 • Llano APU based package, so better graphics from the get go.
 • Same screen size and OS package at a slightly cheaper rate.
 • Better battery life than Intel laptops.

Hope this helps Sunil, Cheers!!

Check out this comparison : http://www.flipkart....OMD6KQG78PYBQJA

1) First one : http://www.flipkart....OMD8C4GATD9MFQB

- As per your requirements (browse, play good videos, simple games), It has decent GPU for entry level gaming. And nice processor for doing regular tasks.

- Downer is 2GB DDR3 rams and No OS. So you will need to hunt locally to configure this with 4 GB (2 GB is also enough) ram and Win 7 basic or premium.

2) Second and third ones :

http://www.flipkart....OMD2PVDAYZM8NGC

http://www.flipkart....OMD2PVDKWF98GNC

- Both have good reviews (outside flipkart ). You will need to google it though.

- Both are complete entry level (all purpose regular) laptops. And are in your budget.

- Downer is proccy, which is 2.2 GHz core i3 2330. Which again, I would not say downer, but will fulfill all your tasks (specially proccy + gpu will be good enough for entry level gaming)

3) Fourth one : http://www.flipkart....OMD6KQG78PYBQJA

- Nice i5 proccy, 7200 rpm HDD

- downer is no dedicated GPU, and no OS. So if you add win 7 basic, then also it will at least cost you 42K+

I have been using HP laptop since last 3 years, and have recommended HP to lots of my friends and they (including me) luckily have not faced any issues in after sales and/or hardware giving issues. So I still recommend HP.

i say go for the asus model.. it even has the usb 3.0 port, which is coming up fast.. plus, as it has dos and not preloaded windows, you end up not wasting money on it and rather get a decent dedicated graphics card for your laptop... which is a big big upgrade compared to a laptop without a dedicated graphics card.. ASUS is a good well known brand.. i dont know how you havent heard about it.. i'd agree that ASUS has made a late entry in India compared to other brands, but it is a very popular and well known brand in the US especially among gamers.. so performance is no issue.. ASUS and ACER provide some of the most value for money laptops in the market without even slightly compromising on the build quality of their products.. .I am personally very against Dell and Lenovo. I personally do not consider Dell laptops to be of very good quality.. I do not want any demands for reasoning or trolling regarding that.. I know many members on this forum go all gaga over dell laptops.. My first preference is always HP and ASUS. regardless of what people say about HP. I have had the experience of using more than 3 HP laptops within my family and all work absolutely well without any problems.. and all of them are over 4 yrs old except mine which is just 2 yrs old right now...

#[member='sunilkumarp'] I'd suggest you to go for as this is the most VFM model in this budget bracket. Actually, this P series is the business series rolled out by Asus with no frills, but rest assured of everything being totally fine. Plus you don't need gaming or any heavy app use, which this lappy can also handle. I know some people om other forum who have bought this and pretty happy with this. You can also get the warranty extended for +2 yrs by paying an extra 4k/5k (either of these) amount.

Thanks #jugga,#puneetritehere,#alpha17 and #crossbow for your replies. I have got good feedback about Asus in this as well as another forum. Probably I will go for it. I was going to ask next about the extended warranty but jugga already gave me the answer too.

#jugga I am thinking of going for the Asus X53SC-SX536D over P series since it costs only a little more but comes with a graphics card, USB 3.0 etc.

Do you guys think this is a good choice?

520M has got marginal leap over HD3000, say 10-15%; and 520MX just overclocked 520M. The price difference is around 4k and IMHO it isn't worthy for that. Also the performance gain is not worth against battery lost. Stick with P series, HD3000 is no bad, it will keep you satisfied more than you want.

Also, while #tagging members, do keep their caps in mind (small or capital); also do give a space then a "comma" (the mistake you did above).
