  • What's your Budget? 35-40k
  • What will be your primary usage for the notebook be? loads of work (going to do MBA) CS and movies and since I will loads of work keyboard should be great!
  • What size and weight considerations do you have? >14'' and light weight if possible
  • Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest? nothing as such (no linux)
  • Any other considerations? Apart from my options, if anything is better then suggestions are welcome

Thank u guys for your suggestion. I didn't take this in my pref coz I heard asus service is not available in many parts of India (I'm going to manipal (karnataka) for my MBA). Besides, service centre is not an issue, I heard asus is just VFM, nothing great.

Heard some great reviews about lenevo ideapad and thinkpad (I have shortlisted 1 of each) and heard their keyboard and build is the best. What do u guys say??

Comparing a regular lenovo model with a thinkpad is like comparing a tank with a nano

You can go for thinkpad, no doubt its great. But you will be compromising on GPU and its a 14". Rest is your decision

As i said, my requirement is to do a lotta work and I don't think a 2gb GPU is gonna be of any use since I'm not going to do any hardcore gaming on my laptop. Just a bit of counter-strike

I guess the onboard GPU can handle CS with ease.

So, do u think the thinkpad Edge series E420 or the ideapad Z570?? (As the Z-570 has a better config) I don't mind the 14" screen as long as HD movies work fine...

BTW i had put the lenevo ideadpad E420 as a option above, but you suggested the asus model

Why are you comparing thinkpad with z570? Go with thinkpad if you don't require dGPU. And if you're planning to ditch thinkpad, consider Asus over lenovo due to better build quality and it save some bucks too.

I replied from mobile then.

Oh ok...agreed on the thinkpad then! Now, any ideas about the ivy bridge processors? Will the thinkpad line up change by 1st week of june or should I just go ahead and buy the E420?? Also If the line up will change before june, would there be any thinkpad under 40 coz of the new architecture??

Ivy bridge will be very help full to you as it brings HD4000 against HD3000 which is speculated to give performance increase of 50-100% which means a lot. There are full chances that they will be available before or in june. Can't say about thinkpad refresh though.

OK, thanks bro. Also does lenevo contain a lot of bloatware? Is a fresh install required??

Can't say as haven't used a "new" lenovo. But you can remove bloatwares easily without needing to do a fresh install.

They are not a big issue.

Alright, thanks a ton! If not the ivy bridge series, then E420 it is!

One last thing...should I extend my warranty period by paying more?? Does an thinkpad really need it??

Extended warranty is always a win-win situation, but thinkpads are known to be least problematic, so you can skip. And you mentioned "ideapad" instead of thinkpad, please edit it or thinkpad ki beizzati ho jayegi

Anyways waiting till 1st week of June to see if Ivy & Trinity based thinkpads come out, or else would go with the Edge E420. Thanks for all your help JuGGa, appreciate it

BTW, I noticed there are several versions of the E420 available on flipkart. Which one have you decided on?

Actually it does. Anyways don't buy online, you can get it cheaper locally I suppose. I'll look for a better config thinkpad too if its available in the local market
