I would be starting with this build once I am done shifting to Hyderabad early next month (Feb). :P

What I would be retaining from my current build

Corsair HX1000 PSU

X-Fi Titanium Fata1ty Champion

Hard Drives

HP DVD Writer

Other Misc stuff like Headphones etc.

The Rest of the stuff from my existing build would be used for a second rig which would be used by my sister.

What I propose to buy new

CPU + Motherboard:

Goal is 4GHz Overclock and great multi-threaded performance. Virtualization performance in VirutalBox/VMWare is also important. Motherboard should be feature rich with USB3/SATA3 support. There is a good chance that I would do Multi GPU if I don't do it right of the bat. Lastly, the Mobo should not cost an arm and a leg on its own. Intended budget for combo is roughly 30k

Options I am looking at

Phenom X6 1090T/1100T + Good 890FX based Mobo.

Core i7 950 + Good X58 Mobo (Considering Asus Sabertooth X58)

Core i7 2600K/Core i5 2500K + Good P67 Mobo.

Is it a good idea to go for the P67 platform (Sandy Bridge) over X58? One of my main gripes with P67 is that it cannot do 2 x PCIe X16 like the X58. Would it be good enough for a SLI/Crossfire config with the latest GPUs?

CPU Cooling solution:

Goal is safe operation of CPU at 4GHz even in hot summer conditions. However to be honest, I am kind of fed up with uber large traditional HSFs that take up a lot of space in the CPU area. So I am seriously considering maintenance free water cooling solutions like the Cosair H70. What do you guy's think. Is it a good option or should I stick to one of the traditional HSF's. If so which one? Mind you I am not so concerned about the noise as about the bulk of these things.

RAM:

I am completely out of touch with the DDR3 RAM arena. I would be going for 6/8/12 GB RAM depending on Triple/Dual channel platform I get. I am not too keen on RAM overclocking as it didn't turn out well for me in the past. A kit that works well at around 1600MHz is fine for me.

Display

Should have 1080p and above resolutions. Size 23" and above, but would prefer something around 26/27". Would prefer IPS Panel's, but not willing to spend insanely huge premiums for them at the moment. Even a good TN Panel is fine. Must have a decent number of connectivity options (DVI + 2 HDMI at the very least). Currently considering a max budget of around 25~26k.

Benq M2700HD (27")

Dell U2311 (23")

Need opinion on Benq M2700HD. Also suggest any other good displays in and around that range.

Graphics Card:

Gaming at 1080p and above. Budget is 30k. Would not go for more than 35k at the moment. Considering the following options

- Single GTX580

- Single HD6970 (with intention of adding another later)

- Single GTX570 (with intention of adding another later)

- Dual HD6870 in Crossfire

- Dual HD6950 in Crossfire

Currently I am more inclined towards single GTX580 and Dual HD6870/HD6950 solutions.

Cabinet:

Looking for a super tower case that is more roomier than my CM Stacker 830 Evo. Would prefer one with a Removable Motherboard tray and weight less than 13 Kg, but willing to compromise on these for a really good cabinet. Should be well ventilated and suited for Air cooling.

Was interested by the specs of Xigmatek Elysium, but the same is not in the market yet. I sent a mail to Tony of Xigmatek and got reply that info would be revealed at best in two weeks more. Other than that I am looking at

- CM HAF-X

- Lian Li PC-P80 (Outdated design and not available in India)

- Thermaltake Armor+/Xaser VI (Too Heavy and not sure how much roomier than Stacker 830)

Have half a mind to import one of those Mountain mods custom built cases like the U2UFO. However they too are costly and not sure how importing them will work out.

Total 80400/76800/78650

Suggested AMD Phenom II x6 1090T over i7 950 coz virtualization stuff does require more cores...

8GB ram shud b more than enough but if u require more than add more 2x4GB in the above config that i have suggested

I suggested 2 x HD6870 coz it can easily outperform GTX580 but if u r lookin for single GPU solution then Buy GTX 570 which can easily handle any game at full HD...

Suggested NZXT Phantom full tower case coz it has got many good reviews....

I Suggested BenQ G2420HD coz u require a good monitor wid HDMI port... But if HDMI is not so important then buy U2311H(IPS Panel)

I Suggested Corsair H70 coz u 've mentioned that u r looking for something which doesn't cover much CPU area... Alternate Option is Noctua NH-D14 cooler which is a massive cooler and really capable of providing good cooling...

The AMD Phenom processor is for the same reason @Hades mentioned other are explained as below

-- the ASUS motherboard based on the 890GX chipset is more VFM than any Gigabyte offering in that range plus has some of the ravest reviews that I have come across, one of my friends has it really good board with great placement of components

-- The NZXT Tempest is the underdog, but seriously one of the best performers in the mid-range it also supports E-ATX form factor boards so very good value proposition. The Corsair 600T is one hell of a surprise please go through the review the higher price tag is fully justified :).

-- For the monitor I haven't seen a Dell Ultrasharp ever but every one says they are good and the IPS panel will result in a dramatically better view angle.

I am planning to change my present system as well and have zeroed down to the 2500K (paying almost 6k more for the 2600K isn't worth it IMO), an Asus P68 motherboard (mostly the Sabertooth P67 or the P8P67 Pro), couple of 4GB 1600MHz CL9 sticks (G.Skill Ripjaws or the Corsair XMS3) and a ATI6950 or GTX560. But this is tentatively by Feb end. By then the rates for the processors would have stabilised after the initial crunch. Might as well have to ditch the present heatsink since the boards do not come with the LGA775 retention holes.

26k can get you a Dell U2410 IINM. Several folks in the forum have got it at that rates. Finally, someone decided to upgrade his display for a change! :chair:

you can go with the P67 platform...the performance of a multi gpu setup on x8 slots is equal to the performance on x16 slots..almost...

About the Cabinet, guy's as I mentioned, I am looking for something bigger than my Stacker 830 Evo. I am already done using Mid Towers and even the typical full towers. Looking for a super tower that can take an E-ATX or larger mobo, long PSU like my HX1000, lots of HDD's and still have enough space to easily work with and move hardware in and out.

As for the Display, I am not too keen on the mainstream/low end 24" models as they tend to have compromises on quality aspects in order to be cheaper and undercut the competition. Dell U2311 is also out as it does not have the requisite connections. Want at least 3 x DVI/HDMI to cover my PC, PS3 and XBOX 360. If I go for 24", it would most probably be the Dell U2410 (subject to the price). Also I am keen on the larger 26/27" models like Benq M2700HD because I am hoping that I can double up the display as a second TV (To be used with Tata sky). Does any one have experience with the M2700HD or other alternatives in this space?

Been using an Dell Ultra Sharp series 20" S-IPS display for nearly 5 years now and I am yet to see even a single dead pixel on it. I spent 28k on that display and I never had any reason to regret it. The only reason I want a new display is because I want to move on to Full HD resolution.

I dont think that this monitor has launched in India... If u r looking for some thing really big then i wud sugest u to buy a Samsung 32" Inch HDTV(C530) which wud cost u around 30k... and it has 3 HDMI ports which i think will fulfill ur needs...

If you are going for a X6 then ....

I own a Phenom X6 1055T and can easily OC it to 4.0Ghz. If your goal is 4Ghz, then save some cash and take the 1075T which should manage 4Ghz without having to touch the voltage settings.

EDIT - With a 8 Series board and decent DDR3 ram.

^^ Currently inclined towards Sandy Bridge because to me it seems me that these new CPU's trump the X6's even in Multi threading performance.

M2700HD is available on the primeabgb website. As for buying 32" HDTV, A Monitor can double up as a decent HDTV, but a HDTV makes for a very poor replacement for a Monitor, so I would be getting a Monitor only.
