Hi All

I am planning to buy a Diesel Sedan. Looking more in to the mid range and following are the options I have. Please advise which one to go for any Why.

Fiat Linea

Maruti SX4

VW Vento

Ford Fiesta (New One)

Hyundai Verna Fluidic

I have fixed on going either for the Linea or Verna Fluidic.

Please see that I will only buy the top model (With ABS & Airbags), and with Manual Transmission.

Budget? If your budget is around 12Lakhs then Chevy Cruze is the winner hands down.

I am in a similar situation but my budget is around 10 or thereabouts and I am looking at the

Ford Fiesta (new) which looks magnificent in blue :D.

What is the purpose of your car and who will be using it (like family sitting in the rear etc? ).

Verna is too low for my taste (I test drove it last weeK). The interiors are awesome, the car

is a very good package but the lack of under thigh support and the low seat level (especially

at the rear) means that I have to rule it out as my folks will be sitting in the rear mostly and

getting in/out for old people would be an issue especially if the seat level is very low.

No Idea about the Linea, havent driven it although would be doing it in a week or so.

Budget is no constraint, though I wonder if Cruze is a Diesel Vehicle.

Average run of the vehicle per day is about 12-130. Yes the back seat will be used extensively as I have a driver.

Would also need to consider that I am 6'2" and the shortest person in the family is 5'4", so would need to consider the leg room and cabin room as well.

Have driven the Linea lately and found it most comfortable for the person behind the steering.

Need to consider the ground clearance as well.

I drive a Cruze.

If the backseat is going to be used a lot, you must know that the Cruze doesn't have the best back seats. Also, the head clearance might not be sufficient for you. The Cruze is a fun self drive car, that too on empty stretches. Since it has a beast of an engine, the mileage isn't great either. I would suggest you first go to the showroom and sit in it yourself first.

I would strongly consider the fully loaded Verna.

Cruze comes ONLY in Diesel with a 2.0 VCDi engine (variable geometry turbocharger)

It has 2 variants:

LT

LTZ - MT & AT (Manual Transmission)

The 2011 Chevy Cruze comes with all black interiors and Bluetooth etc. support

If you don't have any problem with bit dated dashboard, then checkout Optra Magnum 2.0 LT diesel. Very comfy seats and excellent torquey engine.

Linea is a brilliant car but the ground clearance might be a problem on some uneven roads... If that ok with u (which i highly doubt linea is the car to buy awesome comfort for the people sitting in the back seat but if u goin to load ur car with people might get a bit uncomfortable... The drive quality is really good... dont know about the other cars though have heard fludic verna is really good

If you have that lona a run daily and you are chauffered mostly. Why dont you consider an innova?
its optimum for 6.2 guy and legroom is ample too...you can even consider the rear pilot seats version if carrying 8ppl is not required.
and btw...its not too bad to drive around too..i'm using one.

IMO, your requirements clearly state backseat comfort and medium/high legroom for all seats.

The following cars stand apart when it comes to space and comfort in their respective segments.

1. Toyota Innova

2. Toyota Altis

3. Optra Magnum

4. Verna Fluidic

...in that order

Cruze is a big no no for backseats. You won't feel like the owner of the car when sitting at the backseat. No fun whatsoever. It's good only for self-driven highway runs.

Toyota is the epitome when it comes to maintenance and reliability (Very useful when you realize that most drivers don't care about your machine).

Why Innova?

+Biggggg space: Everything else feels cramped after backseat testdrive of this car.

+Mile muncher: Comfortable and low-noise cabin

+Superb suspenion: Despite being a gigantic MUV, it's suspension is perfectly balanced between 1. Ride quality 2. Body roll 3. Loading capactity

+Extremely easy to drive: The view from the driver seat, the extremely constant power delivery and the fun rear-wheel-drive make it a charm to drive.

+Low maintenence and long life: It's the most "sold" Toyota, which results in cheap service and parts. And we all know what gem of an engine the D-4D is.

-Not meant for 120+kmph madness on Indian roads. (Though, ironically it's the official Police vehicle in Phillipines. I wonder what their "greatest police chases" look like :P)

Great observations regarding the innova sato...although I would not agree with the 120+ comment. I do a 145+ almost everyday (bless u my michelins) on mumbai-pune expressway without a hitch..and my car doesnt even have abs. THe car is fater on road than paper because of the confidence it generates and the road presence.

Jay... if you are okay with the image factor..this car will bring u lots of joy.
But if you are interested only in a sedan...I suggest choose between the fluidic verna and new ford fiesta.
linea, vento, sx4 , optra are obsolete and old design...plus except the optra magnum, all the rest are underpowered.
I didn't get a chance to see the new fiesta in flesh....the new verna...is just 'wow' to look.

fluidic verna`s backseat is somewhat poor....see yourself. If Linea`s limited headroom is not a problem for you then its the one to go for..the ride quality, handling and road manners are best in class.Optra is on its way out from the market..New fiesta too got only average backseat comfort.

@poga- vento diesel isnt underpowered by any standards, further power doesnt matter as he got a driver...

FORGET THE LINEA - NOW WAY - It is not selling in enough volumes, and there is no resale value, and the A.S.S is horrible for the most part. This is first had experience.

If you are going Chauffer driven primarily, its the Indigo Manza -

Ok People, so this weekend I have test driven most of the vehicle and following are my observations.

Linea - Good Option, though poor service from Tata, Great engine though, its already Euro V compliant. Not made for the rear seat comfort. Simply amazing driving comfort on R15 version. Really good on corners and great Steering control, evenly distributed.

Verna Fuidic - One word for the vehicle - Flimsy. Its cheap metal and poor quality of interiors, though, feast for a techie and great on mileage. Forget Back Seat comfort.

Vento - Dude, where are my Steering Mount controls and Service Stations. And where is Hydrolic Steering (It has Electronic Steering). Beside that, one of the best built quality. Uneven power displacement at lower rpm, great after the Turbo Charger boosts.

Before moving ahead, I wanna thank Darky for suggesting Optra Magnum 2.0 LT diesel. Bought it today, Great power, simply ample of cabin space for a 10 Lack car. Best built quality, really rigid doors and heavy too. An overall SIMPLE SEDAN look of the vehicle and great looking chrome everywhere. Yes a bit dated dash, though i will be at the back seat so don't need much on it. And its power power powerful. You can just keep on pushing the peddle and it will raise up and just up (Bounce on the double, put the paddle on the floor - JayZ).

Thanks a Ton Darky.
