Yesterday i downloded Windows XP Pro SP3 Lite edition...barely 240mb.

The installation went very fast and was impressed by the customization by the author of the setup as he removed useless apps and put new usefull stuff.

I want to edit the iso/installation as per my needs The creator has put his logo & info in the my computer oeminfo/system support.

I know i need to edit the files in the iso under i386 folder.... i found the file "oeminfo.IN_" & "oemlogo.bm_"

But it cannot be opened in text editor or mspaint directly so i figured out "expand" command using which i was able to edit those files but again i dont know how to convert it back to its original encrypted form..

So please help on this as i googled and found no proper solution.

Just need info for converting back those expanded files. If theres any 3rd party tool or any via MS way, then do let me know.

rename the files to *.cab and proceed to extract. Then repack them using the cab command, rename the extension to the same way it was.

just use nlite to create your own lite version of windows XP. you can also add your own logo.
Using nlite we have to go through this $OEM$\$$\system32 path procedure by creating these folders and then putting our modded struff inside then, but i want to go the original way without adding anyhting extra.

rename the files to *.cab and proceed to extract. Then repack them using the cab command, rename the extension to the same way it was.

Thanx a lot man a very simple and definite answer. I dont know the the repak cab command but know a CabPack 1.4 utility using which we an repack cab files but m not sure whether it will match the microsoft format.
Will be great if you share the cab repack command.

I just provided a a solution that I thought was simpler and much less effort.

If you take into consideration what the OP is trying to achieve, I still think mine is the smartest solution. If however he wanted to slipstream a driver/update/SP or include/update a app that would be different.

If I ask for help and if someone came up with a unusual solution I would be thankful ( even if I did not agree with him). I actually admire people who come up with things that are not in some manual or have been done hundreds of times before.
