Help me in choosing my First Byke

Hi

I am planning to get a byke for me. I have just started learning how to drive :(.

My requirements are
1. Expecting the best mileage
2. Should look decent, No need for stunning looks.
3. No need for high speed/pickup byke

I have found BAJAJ XCD is good for above requirements. please suggest me some good one.

thanks

Although I would suggest sticking to a 110c limit, for first time riders, I think the Bajaj Platina 125 cuts a fine line between economy and other standard requirements.

The Bajaj Platina 125 draws a fine line between fuel economy and other standard requirements. A little extra spunk over the 110c motorcycles, also returning a good fuel economy figure. It is comparatively light and easy to ride.

u will have a bike for a long time, so buy something u'll like in future.

don't decide based on today thinking ur just learning to ride..

I suggest yamaha FZ16 :P

You can also look into the Pulsar 135, it does a 0-60 faster than a p150 but is cheaper and more fuel efficient.

1. The Bajaj Platina 125 has an on-road price tag of ~40K. It is also the most economical option, in the 125cc segment. Mileage ~ City:Max. 70 , Highway:Around 95

2. If you budget permits, you should seriously consider the Honda Shine (54k OR -Disc/Self start). The premium is well justified, by the quality of components and reliability you get.

Although, I faintly agree to that, one can always start with less powerful motorcycle and upgrade to a much better one, in the future.

In fact, they purchase a 2nd hand motorcycle first, master it and later purchase a powerful (& stylish) new ride.

* I would hate to torture a new FZ-16 through the learning phase and remember the torture is mutual (you wouldn't have it easy). *

In conclusion, people generally prefer to progress in stages, as it is the wise thing to do.

I spoke to the Bajaj dealer today, He mentioned the price of Platina with Self start and alloy wheels as 44,800 on Road( Hyderabad).

Also He mentioned that Bajaj Discover 100cc gives about 80kmpl in city roads. Now I am confused between Platina and Discover.

Honda Unicorn or Shine FTW

Unicorn wouldn give u the mileage that Shine would but believe me Honda is far superior in engine quality. No clue about the Shine but even the handling of the Unicorn is amazing in city traffic which is more or less a necessity these days . anyways take a test ride of any of these bikes so u can judge for urself.

Well, although they make stylish bikes with crazy mileage claims, the quality of components are SAD. That being the reason, I suggest a Honda as well.

Like I said, you can choose from the 100-125CC range.

Try to narrow down your choices by atleast two factors and then decide.

Thank you all for the inputs. We have almost finalized the Honda Shine.

I will Book it in next 10days. Any more suggestion on which byke/How to ride/How to learn fast would be great.

Also I am confused about the price. Can some one tell me the on road price for the Ally wheel,Disk break and Self start model in Hyderabad.

Another suggestion. But this time in bold words: BUY A SECOND HAND BIKE FIRST.

Trust me you wont repent losing a couple a grand so that you can master riding the bike first. It will be tough to find second hand Shine/unicorn. So I would suggest Hero honda Passion. Not as smooth as "pure bred" Hondas but way better than Bajaj IMHO.

Hope this helped.

Cheers

No clue about the pricing..check their website. As long as its a Honda u can be rest assured that its of top notch quality.
About the bike itself. the engine should be amazing and best in class. m sure u wont have any problems there. just be careful with the fibre and plastic parts. honda has a bad reputation for that. it wont trouble you as long as your gonna mishandle ur bike.
Few of the tips that i can share with u about bike riding:
-Your learning should always be at low speeds.
-Start with empty straight roads and then once u get the basics right take it into traffic.
-The shifting of gears, releasing of clutch are only gonna be the few problems a new learner experiences. but honestly u ll understand that in no time. Once u do that get yourself to know the bike better in terms of its dynamics and limitations such as how long it takes to come to a stop after hitting the brakes.
-Also its always good to use both the brakes at all times.

Always REMEMBER:
-Ride at a speed ur comfortable with. don go to speeds which u or rather ur bike cant handle
-always ride in an upright posture. it will help in the long run.
-RESPECT ur machine. maintain as and when it needs to be. its gonna be ur companion n ur savior in a lot many ways :cool2:
-Last but the MOST IMPORTANT, always , ALWAYS wear a HELMET

things to watchout for:
- indian motorists are crazy these days. no respect for the fellow rider/drivers. not to scare u but there have been lots of cases related to road rage. For no reason they like to show their prowess to u. Just avoid n let them be their assumed winners (unless ur a politician)
-there are many who like to provoke u by showing their speeding skills, just let it go. not worth wasting ur limbs on them.
-the thing u most likely want to be prepared for is, PEOPLE. they cross abruptly, don know that footpath is meant for them and not for trucks etc. They hate following road rules. I hate to say this but in India its more or less, the street in front of ur house is urs. Do watever u want n noone can do anything about it.

n there your.. Good to go.. sorry for this long post but i feel these are points good to and need to know.

All the best :hap2:

@RadioHeAd thank you so much for the suggestions. I knew each point is worth reading.

I really liked the below point, which is 200% true. When I drove my frnds byke long back Gear changing, Accelerating slowly and Breaks were the issue for me. Especially the First gear.

The shifting of gears, releasing of clutch are only gonna be the few problems a new learner experiences. but honestly u ll understand that in no time. Once u do that get yourself to know the bike better in terms of its dynamics and limitations such as how long it takes to come to a stop after hitting the brakes.

Honda Shine Self-Disc-Alloy - Rs. 56,778* (Hyderabad)

Please confirm with a dealership.

And yeah...

Gear shifts (esp. the 1st) will take some getting used to.

Practice makes perfect, so put in your all!

RadioHeAd has covered other vital points to note.

Today I have seen the New Bajaj Platina 125CC model on road. I have asked him about it. He said its really good. Most shocking thing is the he is getting 80kmpl right out of the box. He is expecting more after the 1st servicing.
