My friend wants to buy new PC, I suggested him this config.

Motherboard:
Gigabyte GA-EP45C-DS3R (pricing not available)
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R Rs. 9000

As per my knowledge current gen chipsets are X48, X58, G41, G43, P45 & P55.
I suggest p45 chipset as it is mainstream+higher end than G41.
crossfire support is not required. he is never going to buy ATI card.

Proccy: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 Rs. 6500
Graphics card : 9800GT Rs. 7000 (pls suggest brand and model)
SMPS 550-600W Rs. 2000 (pls suggest brand, and would this power be enough?)
Ram: Transcend/kingston 2gb Rs. 2000
HDD : Western digital 500 gb Rs. 3000
DVD Writer : Samsung (boxed version) Rs. 1400
Keyboard & Mouse: Combo logitech/microsoft 1000
Monitor: Samsung 2233SW 10400
Speaker: Iball 1500
Wifi receiver: Rs. 1500 (this pc will be in a separate room, if he gets a router from reliance, i believe he will have to buy a wifi receiver for his pc) not sure on this pls suggest
Cabinet: Rs. 1600

Budget without monitor is 30K, the above goes higher but i can't decide where I can cut back.

AMD rigs might be great but then there are some people whom you can never convince.

Use will be casual gaming, internet, movie watching (HD and SD both), music....and he would also connect LCD TV to the PC

Thanks and Regards,
Moshel

If you absolutely must go for an Intel setup, save some cash and get the Gigabyte G31M ES2L motherboard to go along with the E5xxx/7xxx instead of those expensive alternatives that offer little over the aforementioned, that saves you a bit over 6k. Get a corsair VX 450 @ 4k, which raises your PSU budget by 2k.
You should now be left with ~11k for your GPU budget. Try to knock some sense into your fellow if he's a good friend and get an ATi HD 5770, which is a native DX11 card that has no Nvidia eqvivalent at this time. If not, just get a GTX 260 216sp.

wouldn't G31 be a lower end board?

if we get a mobo with upgrade potential would be better, rather than buying a old mobo because it is cheap....thats my idea what do you think?

he might upgrade things like the graphics card but changing a mobo is a complicated matter.

AthlonII X4 620 - 5400/-
Gigabyte 785GMT-UD2H 5900/-
Transcend DDR3 1333 - 2400/-
Seagate 500GB 7200.12 - 2300/-
CM Elite 310 - 1550/-
Corsair CX400 - 3300/- / Gigabyte superb 460w - 2200/-
Logitech Mouse/KB - 700/-
Samsung/LG/Sony SATA DVD R/W- 1100/
This comes to around 22-23k approx. You have a quad core, Good IGP and a DDRIII AM3 mobo. You have about 7-8k left. Wait for the prices to stabilize and go for a DX11 card which will be a bit future proof. Else go for a G31+Intel 7xxx series as Amien suggested + a HD5770. ATI is the leader in the GPU segment now :D So you are the one who will lose out favoring the green camp :(

G31 , the Gigabyte G31 boards in particular, might be cheap and supposedly "lower" end, but they offer stability, features and overclocking potential previously unheard of at this price tag.
If you are talking about upgrade potential, you can upgrade to nearly any socket 775 processor on this board, right upto the high end C2D 8xxx series or the C2Q 9xxx series. This board supports a maximum of 1600Mhz FSB. Do a quick search about this mobo. on these forums and you'll see what I mean.

Your friend doesn't need/require a multi GPU setup, i see no reason to not go with this over more expensive choices. If you do see a reason, or think your friend would need a particular feature not available on this board, please post your views. :)

At this point though, i should also mention the merits of going the AMD way once again. For the same money as you put down on the E7500(actually less, but a bit more on the mobo compared to say, a G31M ES2L, this shoudn't be a problem however as you clearly don't mind going for a higher end mobo.), you can get yourself an awesome quad core processor(2 extra cores Vs. 1 extra MB of L2 cache, not a very tough choice) along with low power consumption - high performance DDR3 memory, an awesome IGP to fall back to and a reasonably future-proof AMD AM3 socket. Ask your friend to leave aside his pointless bias and get the most out of his money(do this only if he's a good friend and you think its actually worth the trouble, else just get him whatever he wants.

ATi leads the graphics race as of now. If you want to go the Nvidia way, you pay a premium and not get much in return. Again, doesn't make sense, your call.

Cliff notes:-
1)Go AMD
2)If you must go Intel get the Gigabyte G31M ES2L motherboard
3)Go ATi (HD 5770, 48701GB, 4890, depending on surplus budget)
4)If you must go Nvidia, get the GTX 260

PS: +1 To Karthi007's config. if you/your friend can see the light. :P

Sapphire HD4770 512MB GDDR5 Arctic Accelero @ 7.4k

WAT U THINKS GUYS IT'S BETTER SHOULD I BUY GRAPHIC CARD NOW OR WAIT.MY BRO IS TELLING WAIT FOR ONE YRS PRIZE WILL BE LESS...FOR GRAPHIC CARD HD5570.

ON BOARD GRAPHIC CARD IS ENOUGH FOR GAMING NOW..WAT U THINK GUYS...Sapphire HD4670 512MB GDDR3 @ 4.5k THIS IS GOOD FOR NOW

THNX IN ADVANCE

Finally......my friend agreed to AMD rig...a close friend of mine, so called him home showed him all your beautiful messages, especially amien and Karthi007 and he got convinced......... although still the sword would be on my head...lol

anyways, We plan to go with Karthi007's suggestion. btw what does IGP mean, does this mobo have onboard graphics?

the graphics card is the only remaining issue...5770 seems to be good...but for 11K need to give a thought...which brands are good in ATI cards? I am not too good with ATI series cards...i think from low end to high end it goes from 4850 -> 4870 -> 4890 -> 5750 -> 5770

he really doesn't need super high end graphics. for us it's enough as long as the game is playable. but the benefit with ATI cards is the HDMI output he can take directly into his TV. is this a deal changer?

^ IGP= onboard graphics. While you'll definately need to consider a separate GPU for HD gaming, the HD 4xxx onboard GPU on this board is the most powerful onboard GPU ever made, and will easily handle HD playback duties.

As for the GPU purchase, if possible, you could wait a while for the new DX11 cards like the 5770 etc to undergo some price reductions. While the newer cards are power efficient and future proof, they are a bit more expensive and a tad slower than their DX10 counterparts (i.e. 4870 etc). Still, it makes more sense to put down money on a DX 11 card. XFX and Sapphire are two good brands for ATi cards.

For your requirement, i don't think you need a card more powerful than the 5770/4870.

i think from low end to high end it goes from 4850 -> 4870 -> 4890 -> 5750 -> 5770

not too sure myself.. but I think it goes like this
4850 -> 5750 -> 5770 = 4870 -> 4890
with the 5xxx series having advantage of DX11+low power consumption+cool features like eyefinity etc...
4xxx series having advantage of low prices...

The choice is HD4870 vx HD5770..

HD5770 - 11k

HD4870 - 10k

HD5770 - 108W TDP

HD4870 ~ 150W TDP

HD5770 - 40nm

HD4870 - 55nm

HD5770 - DX11

HD4870 - DX10.1

Now choose which one you wanna buy..
