Storage Solutions Help!! my LiteOn LH-20A1H thinks its a CD-ROM.

Ok so i have this Liteon 20x DVD writer(IDE)....which for sum reason, for the past 1 month wont read or burn DVD's.....i was ignorant b4, didnt have the need to burn anything so dint bother finding out what the prob was...but now that i want to burn stuff...i cant
i updated to the latest firmware yest. i.e. LL0D.... was on LL0C b4 that....dint help still wont work....
My mobo (G33FB) has 1 IDE slot......and i hav this Drive along with a HDD connected to it....due to the IDE wire lenght limitations i dono which 1 is on master and which on slave :P i think the liteon is master.....anyways i dint hav any "such" problem for 7 months and now all of a sudden it wont read or write dvds....it will tho read a normal CD....tried googling a bit couldnt find a solution.
cant RMA as i got it from newegg...

I have had the same problem with the same model of liteon. Got the first writer exchanged from liteon withing warranty period but the same thing happened to the second one.
 
im guessing u got it from india?
wat all do u need when u give it to liteon?? bill etc or Jus the drive ?
if i send "jus" the drive will they repair/replace it :P it has been less than 1 year since i got it BUT from the U.S

why did i go and buy a drive with lightscribe,20x etc etc which IM NEVER GONNA USE...blah shld hav jus got a cheap 16x local one
 
All I needed was the drive. The guy did not even ask for the bill (neither did I show him). I think it works with the serial number that is stored in the database. If they have a unified database then you can give it a shot.
 
I have the LH-20A1P and I have the very same problem. I've been lazy trying to find the bill for it :S I only burnt like 20-25 DVDs! :@

hammerhead, how is the replacement done? I give it to my local hardware guy from where I bought it? Someone comes over? Do you have a support number I can call or maybe a site/e-mail address?
 
Wah.. So many people having the same issue ? :O IIRC, Rio was using the same drive without any issues. Checked CDFreaks as well and cant seem to come across a thread describing such an issue. Can you please post a screenshot of Nero Infotool ?
 
i think u shud look for a replacement.... my hp branded lieon had almost the same prob..it simply wudnt write any media....an f/w upgrade didnt help either....so went in for an ultra quiet asus litescribe ....

You will have to go to a liteon service center. If you live in Delhi then the service center can be found in nehru place. Just tell the guy that your writer is not working. In my case he did not ask for the bill. Just took the rom and checked the warranty via the serial number. He asked me to come again after two days after giving me a reciept and that is when I got another so called 'repaired' drive from liteon.

^^ shipping it back to the USA and getting it back he can get cheapest LG DVD Writer right here.....and i'm sure he aint gonna go the RMA way , thats why i suggested the cross-flash :)
 
Well I have the LH20A1P,if that's the same one which the OP meant.Had it for close to a year now.Only one problem till date & that was with the drive shifting to PIO mode which I rectified thanks to all the help that I got out here.Even if the drive fails now I have no regret as it has burnt over 300-400 DVD's.:hap2:

Plus the cost for DVD Writer these days are very cheap so just go ahead & buy a new one.If it's a physical lens issue then get it replaced under warranty.
 
i meant sending it to the local liteon centre to try my luck n get it replaced :P are u mad im gonna send a drive all the way to the US :P

:( in 9months ive hardly burnt 15 DVDs

their service center is in Laxmi Industrial Estate in Andheri (W) , all the best.....:hap2:

woaaah , then u surely need to do me a favour too.......ask those guys that ur pal ...errr me has a lite-on dvdrw that refuses to write dvd's and it was purchased in last week of April-07 , however the bill is lost and the manufacturing / stickering date on the liteon drive is of March-07 so wat is to be done , can i give it for RMA ....and if they wont cover it under RMA , how much would the cost be for repairing the same completely....... ( its from a backup rig, so a repaired drive would do ) .........lemme know!!
 
maybe after the local warranty is rejected ill try all that :P

gonna go to liteon soon with the drive....lets see wat happens :D
