I have got a fried, due to high voltage, lenovo laptop.
It was purchased in April/May 2008. company refused to replace it saying high voltage damage voids the warranty. I can see a lot of carbon deposits all over the mobo, when opened.
Is there any way that I can get it RMAed?

If not I want to check the HDD, RAM, DVD RW, etc.. components.
Hdd is HItachi SATA 120GB
I removed the CPU chip and it looked fine too, but don't know abt the workin.
If they are working thenI'll sell it, so that my friend would atleast get some money out of it.

Please suggest

You can try wiping the carbon deposits with IPA ( Iso Porpyl Alchohol) and see if they go away.

HDD can be checked on a normal comp, lappy sata dtrives are compatible with desktop ones. same for dvd rw if its sata. if its ide, you get these 44 pin to 40 pin IDE convertors, can use that n try.

Try different centres of the company..Try and blame it on them, cause they played the same game with you..And thats what they always do..:(
Just keep shouting on him..they'l listen..
dont tell how it happened..
Jus say its not working..
Say there are 2 more laptops at the same place charging at the same time..

Really feel sad for you, silly electronics cant tell when they'l conk off..

thank u guys for replys.
BTW don't feel sorry for me but do for my friend.
I can see some molten ICs so no chance of it working.

I connected the SATA HDD to my dssktop PC, it was detected clearly in BIOS but not in winows. not even Hiren's boot CD, nor in Windows setup.

DVD writer has some rectangular kind of connector. don't know about that. definitely not sata.
