Hi Guys

:new:
Before I ask my query, would like to let u know that me's new to playing around with my rig, so would need a lil' more detailing at times..pls bear with me..:noob:

Okay now, I have an MSI RS482 board, which as you experts would know has a single 3-pin connector, for the system fan.

Now the thing is that I have already bought 2 fans for my rig..
Intake fan = Cooler Master 80mm fan
Exhaust fan = Cooler Master UV Silent 120 mm fan

Before this it had been surviving on the 2 side exhaust fans (local comapny, came with my Navtech cabby), and the PSU (Cooler Master EP 430W) fan...(Does it blow in or blow out??)

Anyways, I dont know if the setp was right or wrong, but now what I plan to do is drill some holes in the front of my cabinet and install the 80mm fan there for air intake..with the side fans also blowing air IN now (the placement is such that it blows air straight on the CPU cooler ~ stock AMD 3000+ )...And the 120mm fan doing the exhaust work..:cool2:

Now 3 questions for you guys:

1. Would this be a better setup?

2. I've no previous experience of drilling so I might not do that immediately, so in that case, would the 2 side intake fans (as desired) and 1 exhaust fan be good enough?

3. Most Imp. Question(The reason why I basically started this thread).. The 80mm fan has a 3-pin connector and the one on my mobo will be used by the 120mm fan..How do I connect the 80mm fan now? Where?..I read somewhere that a "4-pin PSU connector to multiple 3-pin fan connector cable" is available, but am not sure of its availability in India..Asked around 10 different shops in Nehru Place but they couldnt help either..

Pls suggest a way for me to coonect this fan..Can this be done? How?:S

:anyone:

Welladding front fan may or may not help.

Does your cabinet has the mounting bracket at from of cabinet to mount the 80mm fan or you weregona drill the mounting as well as intake area?

Anyway the fron fan may help in maintaining the proper airflow but with 2 side fans i doubt if it can help much.

A pic of your cabinet would be nice to see exact setup and drive positions.

About the fan connector problem. You get "3 pin fan connector to molex connector" easily. Atleast here in mumbai they are freely available.

Here

Here is a pic of it. Gat a printout and show to the dealers, maybe they are not understanding what you are trying to say.

Neheru place is in delhi right? pm Switch he is from noida, maybe he knows where to get these in noida or delhi.

:thanx: funky..

Will take this print and check out at Nehru Place..

Dont have a digicam, will take some pics of my cabby with cell-cam and post it by Saturday..
Cheers!!

Hey AMD, for how much did you get the fans and from where?

I also have some queries regarding the fans. Do the UV fans need a seperate UV light to glow in dark, or how exactly do they function?

And how do you place the fans in the cabinet ? If I get 2 120mm fans, how do I place them for 1 to function as intake and the other in the back panel to function as exhaust, does it have to rotate clokwise or anti-clockwise?

Referring to the picture below...

If I place one 120mm fan in the front to function as intake, the side which has the sticker has to go inside, right ? And if I place it as exhaust in the back panel, the sticker has to be visible....???? I hope I am making sense.......

UV fans have UV lights due to which other UV reactive stuff in ur case will glow :)

if u want to use that fan as intake then the side which is sucking air sud be facing front in the cabby ....

If I have only the UV fan in the cabby and no other UV stuff, will it glow when in motion ?

 :rofl: That qoute is worthy of Dubya!

Well, that is funny.... no doubt...

But I have met people who will still do the reverse unless told so.

How do you think the fans were installed in my case when I got them from the dealer last year??

The sticker side of the fan is the direction in which the air will flow.... every fan I have seen has etched on a side the direction in which the blades will rotate and also the direction the air will flow..... see picture.....

hmmm.... a lil common sense will help also :P
usually the fans have a little curvature in the blades......... helps in lapping the air properly..........

like so:

sidewindercomputers_1883_12120483

look at some of the fan blades....... when looked upon from the side the blade will have a contour like this:

Code:
- ---
  - - ---- ---
       ---- --- --- ----
                    ----------

hence the fan rotates in a way that the curved part helps in propelling the air properly...... so from there you can tell which direction the fan will rotate in.

for example in the shown fan (a 120 mm ultra fast panaflo), the fan will rotate clockwise from where you are seeing it.

again with fixed, it is very easy to tell where the fan will push the air........ i.e., in the above pic, towards you, since the curvature faced you.........

i hope i was clear enough...............

@Rahul: m8 i believe uv fans are those which are made of UV reactive material, So they glow in presence of UV lights.......... IMHO :P

@Soul: buddy, the picture and the arrows you have drawn dont match. they should rather point in the opp direction.

Man..Is this forum gr8 or what!!
So many senior members and experts replying to a single query!!:goodjob:

My 2 bits, as the big boys have covered it all:

1. I havent yet installed the fans, as I've extremely busy this week..Media planning for the next fiscal..

2. Will post pics by tomorrow night or Sunday of whatever I'm able to do with 'em..

3. UV fans light up only in the presence of UV light (atleast the one I bought from CM)

4. Bought the 120mm fan from good ol' SMC..He was asking for 400, but I've got so much used to haggling these days, I paid him only 350...Bought the 80mm fan for 80 bucks from the shop just next to SMC (dont remember the name..in that inner lane, on way to Vishal Bhawan )

5. One question: Anyone in Nehru Place selling Antec stuff coz even SMC has no stock for Antec fans/cases these days??

Cheers!!:cool2:

Even I bought the CM UV Silent 120mm fan for Rs.350 and the 80 mm fan for Rs. 100...   , I have installed the 120mm in the front as intake and the 80mm in the back as exhaust (no space for a 120mm), but the question now is .....   where do I get a UV light and how much will it cost?
