CPU/Mobo Help needed over buying Mobo or GFX

Hi Friends,

CPU: C2D 4500 @ 2.20GHz
Mobo: Intel D946GZis

My Intel D946GZis has some problem, I think. Whenever I run a heavy program the KB + Mouse just freezes.

Here's the video of the problem : YouTube - Here's the problem faced

I don't have a GFX Card & I think the problem is with the onboard graphics because when I borrowed my friend's HD4350 everything went good I played games like Crysis, Assassian's creed etc. and after running the PC without GFX card the same problem started.

So now I'm thinking to buy a new motherboard. Can you please suggest a cheapest LGA755 mobo, as I've budget of 2 - 2.5k.

OR should I buy a GFX card?

If you opt for motherboard, you still would be needing the GFX Card to play games so I would recommend buying a GFX Card as

1) it resolves your issue.

2) you would be able to play games.

Have you tried updating the Intel integrated gfx drivers? And what do you mean by a "heavy program" is it a graphic intensive game or a processor intensive application?

yes, I was also thinking about that thing. But what if some other problem arises after I start using the GFX card?

The thing happened was, last year my onboard sound and LAN was dead and after a year its showing error in onboard GFX so one-by-one if some next part get's damaged then?

So was thinking to buy a motherboard. Can anyone suggest LGA755 cheapest and good board, except INTEL :)

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

@Aces170: Yes, I've updated GFX drivers.

Light programs means word, excel, firefox, VLC etc and heavy programs means HD Movies, Games etc

^Check the youtube link, over there u can clearly get what is happening.

In that event upgrade the motherboard, Deltapage is a good site for indicative pricing. I suggest you get a Gigabyte G31 tried and tested motherboard here on TE.

Shouldn't be much of a difference, but I would prefer the Gigabyte boards. One the make of lower end boards is pathetic, but Gigabyte is the better of the evils, it wont use absolute trash components like Asus/MSI/any brand name. Second, Gigabyte's after sale sales service is much better the other brands.

Yeah, but the G41 chipset should be marginally better in the integrated graphics department. Although its like saying, pigeon crap is better then crow crap :P

Can you elaborate your statement that ASUS/MSI have absolutely trashed parts in low end boards?

The PCB is bad, quality of capacitors is not good, chipset cooling is inadequate. The bottomline, most of the low end boards I have come across/used have failed inside a year. I have not used a lot of Gigabyte boards, but a couple of low end boards I have come across seem decent, and the failure rate is not very high. Besides the after sales support at present is better then Asus/MSI.

^ Here in north, in particular Punjab dealer blindly trust ASUS and does not have any ASS issue with Rashi. In low end both Gigabyte and ASUS have copper HS on NB/SB, PWM area contain solid caps. In some of ASUS models they have black PCB with six port sound. I have been user of ASUS in low/high end mainboards and never had any serious problem after the use of 3-5 years. It's wrong to say that ASUS using trashed material in low end boards. Now when it comes to MSI, I agree with the fact of inadequate cooling on chips and electrolytic caps, even in PWM area.

@ OP In low budget, best bet would be from Gigabyte G41M ES2L@2400, G31MES2L @2275 and again gem from Gigabyte G41 M Combo@ 2550(DDR2/DDR3 dual memory support)

How come no one here has said anything about RAM? How much memory do you have? Atleast having 2gb should get rid of the slow performance.

Dude did you try to RMA it from Intel.

That may also solve the problem you are facing and also the cheapest solution for you.

yes, but Intel Rejected it saying its a physical damage :(

I'll say no to the ASUS Board after the Rashi. Will go for either MSI or Gigabyte.

Which of them will give good overclocking options? Currently I'm running @ 2.20GHz, what will be the max oc i get achieve?

Definitely Gigabyte for Quality and value.

Can't say much about MSI, Dont have experience about their A.S.S
