Hey few of us were wonderin if its possible to setup a lan gaming setups at homes.. as in wat all will be needed ??
We have lots of laptops, a switcher which supports 12 lan cables, 2 pcs which can be used as workstations if needed..
Any help here on how to setup somethin lik xs,warzone, edge, gamezone etc (all in blore), at home??
wanna play cs....

very simple...u said u have switch/hub?...

ok...u have Pcs' .... assuming all the pcs' have NIC cards///assign IPs' to each computer to a specific network like..

10.0.0.1

10.0.0.2

.

.

..

.

.

Use the type of cables..that u connect from your NIC to modem (Straigh through cables) from NIC to hub/switch...

U may have to configure the lan network as trusted in your firewall settings ..(in any)

& ping the systems...if the pings are successfull..u have yourself a LAN.

There are two basic cables. A straight through cable, which is used to connect to a hub or switch, and a cross over cable used to operate in a peer-to-peer fashion without a hub/switch. Some interfaces can cross and un-cross a cable automatically as needed, really quite nice

more info abt wiring ethernet cables here.

EDIT : btw..where in Bangalore?

It would be necessary.

for a LAN, no.... it wont be

the communication would be happening over ARP because all of the systems are in the same sub net. it is only when you are trying to reach outside your subnet when a gateway comes into picture. at other times, the communication happens directly between the machines over the switch.
