Hi guys i m planning to open a website .
Can any one of u please tell me what is the normal plan for hosting a website as i never hosted any web site before.
Is there any special charges if i go for asp.net pages.

Most of my pages will be having either of following languages(html,asp,asp.net.css).
How much space will i be getting.
Do they provide ftp access so that i can change my web page by merely sitting in my home.

You just need to buy webspace , most companies bundle a domain name for free. Different companies have different plans. Most companies will give you unlimited space and bandwidth these days(subject to fair usage) for around 5$ a month. You will get FTP access , mySQL etc etc

I use Free Hosting , ad-free load balanced free hosting service including PHP, MySQL, FTP, Vistapanel .

I think this is what you are looking for. Perfect for starters.

I wonder why people don't read before posting. OP clearly mentions that he needs windows hosting(asp.net?) but still people are blindly posting Linux hosting Providers.

OP, you can try ZNETINDIA as suggested by other person, its a decent Jaipur based hosting company. their prices start at Rs. 117/month.

There are other providers as well, webhostingtalk.com might be a good place to discuss them.

I think more information regarding what the website is about would make it easier to suggest.

For instance:

1. What is your primary audience (geography) ; say most of your visitors are in US or EU no point in hosting on Indian sites.

2. What kind of site are you building? Personal/Commercial/Informative? Personal can be even hosted on your own PC if its mostly on, however, you need a Thirdy party hosting service if its a Commercial website.

3. Other things such as uptime/backup/webserver maintenance (patches, Anti-virus) etc are required? This info can also help us determine what suits you best.

Hello,

If you are New & want to going with Windows Server, avoid EVERY INDIAN seller or reseller. Go with US based & discuss with them before you buy.

I didn't against Indian if you looking for Linux, look other than znexx & ewebxxxx as when questioned arises for SERVICE they SUCKS 99% time. They can only help you at ground level.

So better buy from US based windows hosting service providers.

Somebody hasnt heard of Main Page - Mono

I have, but Mono is not recommended according to me. If you want to run Windows based web apps, run them natively on Windows Server.also, most hosting providers don't support mono.not to forget you need a license from Novell to run mono.

Instead better get WS2008 and run the real deal:D

Just curious, is there any other option other than depending on a 3rd party to host our website?

What if we want to do this on our own? What would be the requirements in this case?
