A friend of mine has got a Dell Inspiron 630m and his LCD screen is not workin [of the laptop anymore].
So he is lookin for getting the screen replaced, but when he contacted dell
lookin for some good genuine service he got a quote of 15k :@ :@

So there's no way in hell any one will pay such a amount to get his lappy repaired c'mon thats 450$ and u will get a better laptop for 600 - 700 $ that too new.

So does any one knows any good service center who will replace the screen for my friend at a fair price.

Good is the key word, I would trust my own hands rather then a service center with this, your friends needs to trust you more, in the absence of that, let him do his own dirty work

^^ where does he say it is a new machine?

The Dell 630m is a fairly old model...

Andrew, the answer would depend on where your friend is...

A friend of mine recently got a 14.1" WXGA replacement done for 10K in Ritchie street, Chennai

He should be prepared to shell out around the same amount as the LCD is one of the most expensive components in a laptop

my firend got 14.1 inch screen replaced from my person whom i buy laptops for 10.8k with 1 year warranty and bill nice price as compared to the dell at least u save 3k

I have already mentioned that my friend has contacted Dell and if they are asking for money means there's no warranty left which i have already mentioned.
The laptop is located in Mumbai.
It makes no sense for one to shell out 10k to replace a lcd of a laptop whose current rate would be around 24k.
Instead one can use it as a downloading machine
only after preparing some sort of cooling system. And put some extra cash
and go for a new better lappy. [others might disagre on this but Thats just me]. Will do some search as u get a lot of good laptop screens from computer
scrap shop for cheap. Will keep u guys updated on this one.

Get a 17 inch monitor n hook it up to it...

It may nt be portable any more but atleast usefull as a downloadin machine as u say...

Thanks for the advice but u do not need to invest 9-10k for making this lappy into download machine u just need a good KVM Splitter which cost u anywhere between 500-800 rs. just hook u r existing monitor, keyboard, mouse to u r rig & as well as the lappy. And just with a switch of the button u can toggle between u r lappy & Main Rig and use the same keyboard & mouse.

The best part why i like using lappy as a download machine its coz its low on
power consumption & also has a inbuilt UPS [the Battery]. So even if u r using this rig for long time, your electricity bill will be lil' light as compare to any low end p4 or AMD machine being used as a Download machine.
As it will need approx 200 watt power supply as opposed to the lappy which barely needs 45 - 60 Watt. So i guess u got my point what i mean.

Try remote desktop or PCAnywhere, or VNC, and you wont need the splitter either.:hap2:

Dude I'm talking bout running a single machine anytime. And also i have mentioned that saving power is also a priority. The only reason i'll be using a splitter is to eliminate cable changing every time and run it as independent machine and not client server config.

if you use it as a download machine? I guess it will be connected to your rig via ethernet ?

And once connected via ethernet, you can access it via the main machine anytime you want, or just shut down the main Rig and the notebook will keep running on its own.

Of course if its an independent machine, with no network connectivity, you cant do this. but then again u cant access this machine either without the main machine being on.

The lappy has a inbuilt Wifi and obviously it will be connected via Ethernet as
it will be close to the main rig with the wifi router [but not wifi, it will be connected on LAN]. Reason coz LAN would be faster to transfer all the downloaded files to the main rig whenever needed. Also i have used Remote Desktop & other such products but it cannot match to the splitter.........

U might be using such kind softwares thats why u r suggesting it, but different people have different tastes [keep that in mind].
