Storage Solutions Help needed which internal HDD to buy?

I want to buy a new 500GB+ HDD.
Apart from Seagate 7200.12 500GB and WD 640GB AAKS what other models are current favorites?

I would suggest you to stick to Seagate. There are others such as Hitachi and Samsung which make HDD's but are more prone to failure from personal experience.
 
I have a Hitachi 160GB which ocassionally doesnot get detected in BIOS and that is the reason i m looking out for another HDD.
@Rs 3400 does the WD 640GB AAKS offers more value than Seagate 500GB 7200.12 @ 2600?
Also is the higher access time of Seagate a concern for performance point?
 
^^ i wud suggest u stay away from Seagate...esp the 7200.11 and .12 series. Check the net...very bad reviews. I have a 7200.11 1TB which went bad within 6 months (got it RMAd, but got a certified repaired one :( ).

But Western Digital...it's better than Seagate as per my experience (I have 2 WDs which are running fine).

Access time of seagate hasnt been a concern, but reliability certainly is
