i screwd up my compaq presario 1928's mobo 2 days back..(apestrope rc410m, PEntium D, ddr2) ...want to know if other mobos viz gigabyte, asus etc will fit into the case or have to call up compaq guys for the same mobo....specially worried about the i/p o/p ports on the back......ne xperienced comments ?

yes, you can fit many boards ,it depends on its size, you have to replace the back IO cover ,so that new board fill fit.But you have to remove IO external plastic cover if present, plz post your mobo photo,IO photo for exact reply !

^^ yes new mobos will have I/O cover so replace the old I/O covers as the placement of various ports is different for different mobos

Its very difficult to find motherboards suited for compaq pc,problem is processor HSF is mounted to the cabinet itself. You may ended up buying a new cabinet and HSF.
