Hello,
I installed Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) for my AMD 64 bit desktop yesterday. I also downloaded and installed all the updates and packs and packages it told me to. It also told me to download and install restricted drivers for my nVidia GeForce 9600GT card, so I did that too.
I basically only wanted Ubuntu to play video files (since I found the playback on Linux to be far superior to that on Windows) so I opened a video file via the Media Player. There, I faced a problem.
See, my monitor is 1360x768 (16:9) and the file I was playing was an mkv file with resolution 1280x720 (16:9). So, in fullscreen, the entire screen should have filled up with the image right? But, somehow, the Media Player was letterboxing the image (adding black bars below and above the image), and so the video appeared stretched. I tried other files, with different resolutions and the player was letterboxing ALL files, even though that was totally not needed. I tried to change the settings and all but nothing happened. It is till letterboxing all files, and I don't know what to do.
Can someone please help me? How do I correct this issue?
PS - I tried using VLC, but when I choose the default audio output as ALSA, it just doesn't give any sound in DTS audio tracks. What's up with that?
