Help: Question about Airtel 1 Mbps UL Plan?

Hi everyone,

I am planning to go for the Airtel 1 Mbps UL plan

people say that you have divide the kb / mbps plans by 8 to actually know about the download speeds. Is it true? Why do u divide by 8 to know about the download speeds? For example the above 1 mbps plan when divided by 8 you get ~ 125 kbps. So will that be my download speed?

I would like to know what would be the upload and download speeds, the quality of customer service and any other factors influencing my plan?

One more question is, if i am going to download 1 GB, what is the time taken by the 1 mbps plan. Pls explain me in detail as to what the time will be taken for downloading torrents, files from rapidshare and direct http downloads.

Thanks all in advance,

Vipul

ok here goes..

you will theoretically get atleast 128kBps download and upload speed, although practically it could vary from 120 to even 150kBps.

I am on the 1 mbps plan and here are the download and upload speeds i get:

Torrents:135-145kbps(private trackers)

Http:145-150kbps(microsoft servers)

Rapidshare:140-145kbps

To download a 1GB file would take you approximately around 1.45hrs to 2hrs.

Customer care for airtel in bangalore is extremely good and they rectify the problem within an hour or two of registering a fault.

any more questions?

:S :S

1mbps = 1024kbps = 1024/8 = 128KBps

128KBps@1hr = 128 x 60 x 60 = 460800KB's = 450MB not 700mb

Hmmm... You are right...

Anyways, I said around 1 hour... He will probably hit higher than 128kBps.

Yeah, the total bill after taxes comes just a shade under 2500.
and as Fahrenheit said, download speeds are between 130-150kbps.

Download speeds for me : 125k on everything (private,public-if well seeded and http)

Upload speeds : 35-50K

Time taken for 1GB : Approx 3 hrs~
