Hi,

I have a 320GB hard driver with four partitions. I would like to merge the three partitions into one and keep one for OS. Now I used the disk management and deleted 2 partitions now instead of showing as one consolidated free space they are still showing a partitions and I am unable to merge them. Am i doing anything wrong or am i missing something or do i require any software to do that. I have used partition magic in windows XP but i guess it does not work with Vista .. Any suggestions...

Thanks and Regards

also, backup all your boot partition data and the data on the other partition before you start the merging.

I have had bad experiences with merging partitions even with Partition Magic- I lost a lot of data, programs stopped working etc.

+1......to that...

ensure u have complete backup......i lost 2 partitions once doing the same...thankfully i had backed up everything before doing so....ensure u do the same.

Acronis® Disk Director Suite and Paragon Partition Manager are very good tool to accomplish such tasks. Once norton failed to detect my 1 TB drive but these worked fine. Try once

If there is an extended partition, you have to delete or merge the volumes inside the extended partition before you can merge/delete the extended partition with any of the primary partitions.

Too late guys.. lost everything as deleted all the partions and lost everything except the c: drive ( thank god )

Lesson learnt .. going back go XP first thing this weekend.. Had enough with vista..

^^ yeah 35 movies and my music if you can help me with a formated drive

Yes you can recover from formatted drives, use "Get data back for NTFS" software if data was from FAT32 then "Get data back from FAT32" nice software, will do job well :)

Get data back works fine but there is still another tool when everthing fails i.e. Easy Recovery Pro and also so many. Contact me when nothing works

Not really vistas fault :P deleting a partition in any OS will cause data loss :bleh:

^^I know.. but i didn't get the tools for the same...

Have used partition magic for years .. worked like a charm always .. but couldn't get anything for vista in time and hence messed up..

Would try what virus suggested tonight and lets see what happens ..

wish me luck :P
