^^ You should have gone for a Single 256MB stick instead of 2 x 128MB. This is a Socket 754 platform which does not use dual channel memory, so its basically a waste to put in 2 mem sticks.
Hope you can rectify that, else I guess no harm. Just that your board would normally come with 3 mem slots, and you would use up 2 slots unnecessarily by going for 2 modules.

eddy,

i went for 2 coz

a) if one fails the other is there
b) the machines are not gonna use more than 256MB RAM. so memonry slots are not getting wasted
c) if another board comes later which can use it, i can swap sticks
d) 2 x 128MB costs me 1100 instead of 1200/- for a single stick from my dealer

does it make sense ? :D

VIA+Semprons

Also i beleive you will be using Tally 5.0 onwards... Cause 4.5 dosent work with Win 2K or XP...

@edit... Just read the complete thread.... Good its Tally 7.2

a) Hehe, thats a good idea ;)

b) Actually 256MB would be the ideal amount to run XP efficiently. Applications you use above that would demand more, and memory needs keep rising every year.

d) Thats surprising, normally its the other way round :)

although 256 mb would be just barely adequate for an XP m/c , 512 mb would have given you just that more extra comfort zone without increasing the cost much. but anyways since you happy with the m/c alls well that ends well.....

Um Deejay running a no frills XP 256mb RAM is enough. But with 256mb RAM its highly recommended to use Win 2000 which I yet feel is a better OS.

Aces170 . LOL i have a p2 lappy with 64 mb ram and xp with sp2 "runs" on it too......:D

so with 256 mb an xp m/c will run easily too (which i have stated before) but by spending 1.2K more you surely get more "headroom" to run bloated ms office applications.

going from 256 to 512 gives good benefits but going from 512 to 1024 does not give as much (except for gaming ).... sort of diminishing returns ...

anyways since the m/c has been bought by the poster no point in pondering over it ....
