Problem 1: The screen got vertical lines on its right hand side which seemed to increase with passing time. One fine day the whole screen froze/filled with vertical lines. However when I twist the screen I bit, I can see the display perfectly.
What can be the cause? And the probable solution along with the expenses. From where I can get it repaired in Delhi?

Problem 2: I was working by attaching a 32" LCD tv to bypass the LCD problem. It was fine for 3 months, but suddenly the computer displayed a BSoD while booting up (when windows XP logo is displayed). I showed the lappy to a local dealer, who stated the HDD is dead. I took out the HDD and checked by baking up all the data through an external casing, and completely formatting the drive. HDD is fine but there seems to be another problem.
a. I can't note the error code, as the lappy switches off after displaying the BSOD in a flash.
b. I am unable to install fresh copy of windows xp as the cd rom is defunct.
c. The lappy is behaving eccentrically (switching itself off) when I am in BIOS.

Please help.

Heating problem perhaps? How old is this? I have seen old lappies with dust buildup inside so bad that they automatically shut off/crash in 10 min after starting.

for the screen problm , i think the cable that connects the lcd to main board is the culprit..

I had almost the same problem with dell c640, got it replaced in NP for 1600...

for problem 2 : i'm having the same problem , don't know the solution or cause of the problem yet, but i have a workaround for it... since bsod only comes sometimes during bootup.. i'm managing it by not turning it off & hibernating it evrytime..

I.ve always hibernated the system. But one fine day I encountered this BSod while loading the hibernated state! I searched a lot on forums: probably dust accumulated in fans/ram hardware problem may be the culprit. Will open and clean that laptop from inside over the next two days.
