Hi,
i have an Unlimited TataBroadband connection in Mumbai. These guys keep disconnecting me some time in the night.....is there some way to prevent this disconnect or re-log on automatically after 1 minute.

They basically do this to prevent downloads from happenning in the night when the PC is unattended.

This happens even if i keep pinging some http address all night. I have told them about it but they dont really care as it saves them bandwidth.

Are using the web based login?? If you have a dsl line...just use the bridge mode and create a dial-up connection...

hmm... my tata 512k ul connection is via metro ethernet into my router, which logs in via PPPoE and automatically tries to reconnect every 10 secs if it's disconnected...

i've noticed that my tata connection seems to be dropped at 3am every night (based on checking My Usage on the tata indicom website), but since my router automatically tries to reconnect, i guess i hardly suffer any downtime (< 10secs) and my bittorrent just resumes from where it left off

if your router doesn't do automatic reconnection or you don't use a router, then you can try using an automated task scheduler that can be used to automate task execution, mouse clicks etc to redial/log-in... one such scheduling software is Eventcorder...

@Vivek : so u do have a dsl line rite??? just configure the modem/router modem for bridge mode... and create a pppoe connection...and the u shld be able to auto re-connect...

which router/modem do u have?

even mine has been disconnecting for more than 2 weeks now :(

i use a dialer, so configuring it to redial helps a bit..

Can any Body post a Step By Step Guide of how to just configure the modem/router modem for bridge mode & use a Dailer ?

Dont want to Screw the Current Settings,if i DO,will Take Days to Fix up things as Tata CC is Bad

i have a Billion router too. i have set the router to dial and i have never been disconnected for a long time. if at all it gets disconnected the router will automatically try again after sometime.,,

U mean to Say,Login Id & password is Stored on the Router & it Dials after sometime if on disconnection ?

i have the same billion router....i am currently using exatt...will posted the way to bridge mode a lil later...

Here goes...enter the address 192.168.1.254 to enter the router settings...use watever username n password u have set...[default is admin:admin]

Then click on the Interface Setup tab....under this...see the PPPoE/PPPoA option...
There u'll see the username n password n encapsulation...dont enter anything as username n password..
keep encapsulation as PPPoE LLC...
Below this there will be Bridge interface....check the activated option...

And then click on save...

Then from start--->run---> use the raspppoe command to bring up the services...u'll see the VSNL service....make a dial -up connection.
Then just enter ur username n password and connect as a dial-up connection.

Dont use the raspppoe command more than 3 times at one go...its coz the router/modem to stop responding and a restart of the same.
