I'm tearing my hair out.
At a cousin's place, trying to get her Tata Indicom 256k connection working with a Netgear WGR614. It's a web-based login, with the ethernet cable... no go.The config wizard just craps out.

The way I understand it, the issue is that TATA does not provide IP through DHCP,but the IP has to be configured manually for the connection. Once IP has been configured, you need to login using PPPOE to TATA Indocom... correct?

How do I do this?

most ISPs use 192.168.1.1 as the LAN base IP on the modem

most routers (including the wgr614) use 192.168.1.1 as the LAN base IP too

i think it is this conflict that is causing trouble for you

you need to configure the router (advanced settings) to use say 192.168.2.1 as the LAN gateway IP so as to:

On modem (as exists):

WAN IP (dynamic)-> LAN IP (192.168.1.1) -> to router

On router (what you need to do)

WAN IP(192.168.1.2) -> LAN IP (192.168.2.1) -> To client machines (192.168.2.n)

Mods, please correct the typo in the topic heading. Such spelling errors reflect rather poorly on the entire community.

Don't use the config wizard, its crap..... atleast for indian ISPs..

You'll need their DNS numbers, VPI, VCI & multiplexing method they use if you are goin to setup the router. Else configure PPPoE on the PC.

But I have a static IP from Tata Indicom. Through ethernet, not through the DSL modem.

Problem still persists, spent 40 minutes with burnz on the phone, no go :(

Any help would be welcome..

Are you able to ping both the Wifi Router and the tata indicom DSL router? In my home the DSL router has an internal IP of 192.168.1.1 and the Wifi has 192.168.0.1. Once that is done, I'm able to ping both. However the Netgear somehow doesnt supply the client machine with the proper DNS config. I have to manually set the DNS on the client to the DNS server assigned by Tata.

^That's the issue, I have a direct Ethernet RJ45 connection from Tata. How to do this?

Wonder what is going wrong. I have a direct ethernet connection from Tata too. I am connected through a 8-port hub directly to the cable. (Am basically using the hub as a female-female connector). I input the gateway, subnet, IP and DNS. LAN connection shows cable plugged. If something goes wrong, I check if I can ping the gateway. When I open a browser and try to connect to ANY site, the TATA login page turns up. If it doesn't, I use

Code:
https://logindev.tataindicombroadband.in:8443

The tab is to be kept open at all times.

(Dunno where you live, but I use settings as
IP - my IP
Gateway - 10.9.6.1
Subnet - 255.255.254.0
DNS - Any DNS will do actually.)

Don't worry about PPPOE, it works without using a dialer for me.

Okay here is what you need to do. Other have tried to convey but let me elaborate.

Netgear WGR614v7 is a router so it does't matter what IP you give to your PC. But whats important is what you assign for WAN IP of your router.

Steps to follow.

1. Get following details or atleast the basic IP config that you use to connect to internet on your PC.
IP address : usually 10.xx.xx.xx
DNS, Gateway etc

^^ All this comes with ISP connection.

2. Once you have this login to your router and go to WAN settings.
Here select the type as STATIC IP and put the above info that you collected there.

3. Now comes the LAN part, here you can assign 192.168.1.1 to router and enable DHCP.

4. Remember to enable DHCP on your PC or simply assign IP address as
IP : 192.168.1.xxx
Gateway - 192.168.1.1
DNS - Given my your ISP

^^ Do not use the ISP IP address on your PC, we have already assigned to router's wan.

5. Start your client and simply login to internet ;)

If you have doubt etc please post in.

Hi TH

Looks like you are facing the same problem as i am.

Earlier i was able to connect to TATA via my router.

But now since there server has changed its not allowing me to login

via my router and hence i am not able to share my net on my other devices.

Its been one month i am calling tata to fix the issue but no use.

Tata has started to be a Pain I.M.A. now.

speeds are also dropping like hell from last one month.

I am really sick of calling these guys , feeling like smashing these guys.

Let me tell you your router is fine its just that there is some problem

on the server side.

It doesnt authenticate my account whereas it works fine only on a windows machine.

Tata is now not working even on my linux machine now , so it wont even

work on my router as routers also have a linux os running on it.

So dont blame ur netgear , blame those tata guys for making u tear ur hair

How do you login to TATA acc ? Do also have optional Web login ?

U can also spoof your MAC. some ISP locks your MAC and only allow login using this mac address.

Please go though my previous post and this time in you router control panel change the mac address of the router to that of your PC.
