Apple Cinema display is an IPS panel with LED backlighting, and 2560x resolution.
When you have a 2560x display, gaming is a very tough challenge for even the biggest graphics cards of today unless you are willing to compromise on eye candy or resolution, which is kind of pointless if you're splurging on the display itself. A 5970 is the way to go for new games and full 2560x resolution and lots of eye candy, no single GPU can handle such a high resolution smoothly. I still play mostly old games (Arkham Asylum being the most recent), and my 4870 x2 is sufficient for the time being. All digital displays exhibit lag - look at the AT article for more information on this effect. This is not the same as ghosting, which my 3008WFP (not 3007, as has been incorrectly pointed out) does not exhibit at all. It does have a bit of input lag but does not create problems for me while playing games, so I assume it is small enough that it is not an issue.
All large IPS panels have some backlight bleed, and this can get irritating in a dark room and dark movie scenes. Under bright light, the superior accuracy and better native contrast of IPS panels makes a huge difference when you work with professional applications, or even just surfing the web.
HD rips play better at native resolution, making 24" 1920x monitors a more sensible choice if you want to watch a lot of movies, so the situation gets complicated. Large screens with low resolution - such as the 32" TVs with 'only' 1920x - have dot pitch problems at typical desktop distance - icons look way too large for my taste, and text is pixelated. It's a larger screen, but actually has less real estate. And they suck for any application requiring accuracy, with viewing optimised to video rather than gamut coverage and true colours.
It would seem you are torn between apples and oranges, as it were. You have to first decide what you want the display to do for most of the time, and only then you will make an informed choice. Hypnosis is all nice and it's your money to waste, so all the best for that!
