Hi,

I have been a happy ubuntu linux user since Drapper came out. but there is just one thing that has plagued me from fully crossing over to linux.

Being in a country with frequent powercut, I hv been so far been unable even to make my APC Backup UPS ES-650, even to beep when in Ubuntu on a powercut :( :ashamed:

Is there something i can do to work like in WinXP using powerchute? to automatically shutdown on powerfail

Your help will be greatly appreciated :hap2:

Yes, the UPS (BackUPS ES 500) shuts down when its battery drains during a power cut. I havent attached the USB cable for shutting down the OS though, so it happens when im XP or Ubuntu...

So did this happen by default, by default I mean did u install this daemon for the shutdown to happen automatically in Ubuntu

Why i am asking this is just wanted to know if my Ubuntu is Kaput! :)

erm, some misunderstanding here.... i meant to say, only the UPS itself powers itself only off after few seconds of beeping.

the computer remains on and gets powered off (cut off) due to loss of power from the UPS...

in short: no i dont have this "powerchute" behaviour in either XP or Ubuntu at the moment... i have yet to try this apcupsd thing

any update/luck on using apcupsd on linux? im curious but too lazy (no need) to try it out myself at the moment :P might need to if powercuts get longer and more frequent this summer in pune...
