Storage Solutions HELP!!!! WD MyBook 1TB - Low seek speed - Cant copy

Hi All,

So one of my WD 1TB is dying. :O

It will connect to PC, show up. If i open the drive, it will take so much time to show the thumbnails. Or if i select the HDD will hang. Even if i selected and right click and copy.
It wont copy to the new destination.

Any idea how can i salvage the 1TB data?

Boot your system using a 'Live Disc' Live CD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia preferably Ubuntu and plug in the hard-drive.

If it is detected, take of whatever data you absolutely require and later rest of the data.

Exit out of Live Mode and go to the directory where you dumped all the data, check if its working and then shift it elsewhere.

That is what, Windows cannot do it. Use another OS to rule out the Windows is not detecting issue and save your data that way if possible.

If Live session does not help you, then call in the professionals. =|
