Hi folks,
As all you must be aware, that Supreme Court lifted the 7% Import Duty on laptops. This judgement came on 11-Nov-2007, for a petition submitted by Acer brand.I do not have the link now, but there is an article in Economic Times. I will provide the link later.
So in my opinion, the laptops should be cheaper now.
Acer may pass on the benefit to the customer but what about other laptop brands? Are they doing it  ?
I communicated with Dell India to find out, they told me that it is for imported laptops(ofcourse Dell is imported), but they added that it is applicable for brands which stock their laptop. Their business model is direct-selling, and no stocking in any shop. So they will not fall under this law. The person even read the Import Duty law from rule book. Intrestingly if you see Dell website now, they have seggregated the Home and Small/Business segement links in Notebook section :ashamed: . Moreover, the Inspiron 1520(as I tried configuring with the one i ordered) will cost more with the config which I have ordered. It cost more by about 4K to 5K. This has happend in just a weeks time. There is only single configurable model for Inspiron 1520, as opposed to two earlier  .
Any idea why so  ?
Please count your experinces or any other information which dealers or company executives are providing about duty cuts.
Regards,
Awe
