Laptops Help: Wireless Net problem

Hi guys

my friend bought a Compaq V3122 lappie today


we've got wireless internet access at college.

i entered all the settings and stuff correctly.
the lappie detected the wireless net. But signal was very poor. only 1 out of 5 points. and it was not connecting.

so we took it to our net lab and our net incharge placed it right next to the net hub thingy. still no improvement in signal and the net wasnt connecting.

Any suggestions as to what i could do? :(

99%: the antenna wire on the mini-PCI card is loose/isn't connected...

for a quick self chck, open the mini-pci slot on the back side and check that the wire isn't loose/discoonnected (don't worry, this won't void the warranty, the mini-pci card is meant to be user replaceable)
 
you need to check if you have the intel bg2200 chip in there. if you have that, then you may have to go in for the latest drivers or you may need to try different drivers (google for intel 2200 generic drivers).

i have a stinkpad r51e and the same problem. but now i am happy after the generic drivers. the latest drivers did not work for me.
