I'm sorry if this is a rehash of an older thread, I have not been on TE for a while now....studies and new people have taken up the majority of my time these days :(

I was thinking of getting a new 5.1 speaker set and currently in my price range I have these options:

1) Creative Inspire T6060
2) Creative Inspire P5800
3) Logitech X-530
4) iBall Booster 5.1
5) Creative Inspire M5300

All of them are virtually in the same price range; but I am finding it difficult to know which is the better speaker set.....Given the specifications given by the speaker manufacturers the X-530 and iBall Booster seem comparable in terms of RMS rating and the like (but the Logitech seems to have a better SNR ratio). Also the iBall has a tweeter as well; supposedly this should make music sound better but of course theory is often different from reality :)

What does confuse me is that the Creative Inspire P5800 and T6060 seem to have almost exactly the same specifications; they look different indeed but which one would be the better model among these two (Price difference is irrelevant)?

I know next to nothing about the M5300, I just threw it in there because that was also there and was priced a little bit lesser than the other speaker sets listed above....anyone have any experience with this speaker set?

Also, anyone know of any dealer in Lamington road who sells NON-Creative soundcards capable of at least 5.1 channel audio? All of these speaker sets are available to me at a price that is affordable to me; so I simply want whichever is best out of these ones.

The vendor's pages for each model are listed below:

1) iBall Booster 5.1:

iBall – Your eyeball view. Our technology new.

2) Creative Inspire T6060:

Creative Inspire T6060

3) Creative Inspire P5800:

Creative® Inspire™ P5800

4) Creative Inspire M5300:

Creative Inspire M5300 - The Best Value for 5.1 Audio Performance and Style.

5) Logitech X-530

I bought my Creative t6060 for 3750 + tax....

i am loving it so far.... it has total of 76watts RMS... the Bass is wonderfull... and you know what Front and center speakers have tweeters too..... i guess that makes it better than IBALL....

and if you have little bit of extra money than i would ask you to go for 7.1 system.. it costs somewhere around 6.5k

If you are going for a budget speakers then one more good options is their UTopia 5.1 channel speakers. I have got them its also a good choice for sound solutions.

my suggestion to you..

Logitech X-530>>Altec Lansing 251>> Creative 5.1(either the T6060 or M5300)>>I ball.

i dont know much about 5.1 system but from what ive heard..and after reading a few reviews it seems that the Logitech X-530 are one of the best in budget 5.1 systems..

even the altec lansing and creative are good enough ..but i would say stay away from the I ball..

i would recommend neither 5.1's at this price range nor buying speakers based on their spec.

1) could you explain why exactly you want 5.1 ?

2) listen to them, then make a decision. speakers are to be heard , not seen or read about :P

yeah very true..even i was gonna say the same..but i thought he only needs 5.1 (and not to 2.1) maybe for movies and all that surround effect..

if u want speakers for listening to music its better to go for a high-end or good stereo speakers..like the Altec Lansing MX5021 or ATP3 if mx5021 is out of u r budget..

but again for movies you may go for 5.1's

but as greenhorn said..in da end it all depends on you..got to some shop and have a demo..and decided after listening to each of them..

Forget the iball...the T6060 is good value for money..but i'd recommend the Artis S6600R....its available for 5.3k..and it simply sounds awesome...i was blown by its performance at a demo...i'm going to get these speakers soon..Artis makes really good quality speakers even if they are not as famous as creative or AL...And they sound way better and are much more reliable than intex, frontech and iball crap...i currently am using an Artis S880 4.1 system which has been with me for the last 5 years. And it still performs flawlessly. :)

The Artis S6600R is THX certified and has an in built AM/FM tuner as well..you can get more info about it here.... S6600 :: Artis computer speakers :: by Kunhar Peripherals Pvt Ltd

Finally, u dont need to take my word for it...listen to it and then decide for urself...;)

Well........Actually there is only one PC right now; if it was only for me then I'd be rather happy with a good 2.1 system but now since my brother and parents also use it; we also need to watch the occasional movie and play some games :)

Thats why I was looking for a 5.1 system.....I was also leaning towards the T6060 from Creative, or the X-530 from Logitech......Until I saw the P5800 which seems to have exactly the same specifications as T6060, so I got confused which is the better one (P5800 costs slightly less than T6060 but the price difference is not significant, around 100 rupees only).

The Artis S6600R looks good......I'll take a look at it :)

Well , i can tell u one thing .. bundle a good sound card (even audigy2 zs for <3k's) with the T6060 and u'll be happy .. looks + good budget performance ... i just won't dump my current setup for anything around this budget ...

does the soundcard make so much difference compared to onboard ??

..will it make a difference wid ATP 3 ??

I actually want to buy an Audigy 2 ZS along with the speaker set but I dunno who sells it.........If anyone knows a dealer in Lamington Road who sells any Audigy 1 or Audigy 2 card excluding the Audigy Value; then I would like to know :)

Well, depends on your onboard and depends on your soundcard too. A good onboard audio solution (read: VIA Envy24/Vinyl series, ADI SoundMAX) will compete well with solutions like Audigy 1 and 2 for movies and music. But for games the Creative cards support better EAX features so if you are not running Vista then the Creatives are definitely better for games.

Of course newer cards like Audigy 4 and X-Fi are unmatched in quality by any onboard audio solution :)

yes, makes very good difference with ATP3. I noticed lots of difference when i upgraded from Audigy Value to Xfi (yeah i had ATp3 that time).

err u mean to say ..SOUNDMAX onboard (intel 865gbf motherboard) and a sb live 5.1 24 bit\soundblaster and audigy zs wont make much difference ??

i personally dont like my soundmax onboard.. but dont have the cash to buy a new sound card

no re, am just giving u an example. i meant ATP3 will sound better with sound cards than the onboard ones.

It depends also on the implementation of the onboard sound chip on the motherboard........if the chip is not optimally placed then it will suffer from increased noise characteristics.....And of course on the audio chip model itself. For example in SoundMAX AD198x series are the best ones which are comparable with Creative cards, but the AD188x series are not so good.

But in personal experience the SoundMAX audio (AD1980) on my Asus K8V-X motherboard matches the audio produced by the SB Audigy value at least as far as music and movies are concerned.
