Help with configuring Dlink DIR-300 Wireless Router

Hi,

I have been trying since couple of hours, but unable to setup a wireless connection at my hostel.

I have been provided with an Ethernet Connection, my User/ID and IP details and a 24Online Dialer.

Initially tried with wired connection through Dlink Router but was unable to connect. Also tried various methods and none seem to work.

Also as specified changed the IP to automatic when Dlink Router was used.

Tried to setup the firmware settings through 192.168.0.1 but still now working.

I hope I am making sense with my problem.

Any help is appreciated.

Is it a PPPoE connection?

Try connecting only the router to the PC first. Then log into the router using a browser pointing to the admin ip address (Usually, 192.168.0.1). In the setup tab, there is an option to select the internet connection type. Here, select the PPPoE which will give you options to fill in the details like your IP address, DNS, etc. which I assume you already have. Apply the changes and the reboot to see if you get an active connection. Essentially, 24online dialer will not be used in this case. Hope this helps...
 
does your ISP use... MAC locking ....

even if it does not still clone computer's mac id to router...

if you are not able to connect via interface in the wireless router...

2nd page i think ... use manual and do not use wizard...

connect and view status of connection if it gets outside ip it is connected...

also if your isp gives you static ip.... use that ip inside router and enable dhcp to connect to you machine a router can have two ips one of internal network and one of external... your router is capable of dialing a popoe connection... Here router actually is the one connects to internet and you access connection via NAT (192.168.0.X/255.255.255.0)

if every thing fails... easiest way is to let the dialer remain on pc... enable wep 2 security give a network cipher and enable router as an acess point ... in this method you might lose the ability to find router via 192168.0.1 but sharing will work without any hiccup ..

only down side is your PC has to be up for your clients to connect to internet ... in this method ... your computer joins the internet... while your router joins your internal network together.. internet connection sharing has to be enabled to share connection among clients...

posted the method few days back for another DIR 300 wifi router donot know which thread though....

Actually been crazy busy..So haven't tried anything after i posted..But will definitely try it in few days..

Will need more assistance then :)
