Help with Ffd show

Ffdshow has so many confusing options and i don't no which one to turn on. Can someone help me with the settings. Or maybe a link which tells me how to set things up...

I'd like to play resized dvds and xvid files with as much clarity as possible. i use ffdshow with zoom player and purevideo.

Well I've tried VLC player...but i seem to get much higher quality with ffdshow...

Edit: The there is a big difference between WMP with ffdshow and VLC player. The video in the VLC player looks very dull and a little washed out.

I tried to take a screen shot of the vlc media player when it is playing, but the screens shot ends up blank. :S with only the buttons showing up but no image from the video.
