Hello,
My Gpu (8600gt) has been overheating wayy too much. After just around 15 minutes of Call of Duty MW 1/skyrim, both rivatuner and everest showed that my GPU was at 107C :ashamed: Even with the side cabinet kept open, there is no improvement. The idle temp is around 64-67C. There is no manual control for the GPU fan, its one of those automatic ones.

These are my specs
athlon x2 5200+
Asus M2N mx se plus
xfx 8600gt 256mb ddr3
transcend 2gb ddr2 @ 800mhz
Seagate 250gb HD
Gigabyte Superb 460W

I know that this is way higher than safe limits. I have also removed/cleaned the heatsink and fan, and reapplied the thermal paste with only 1-2C improvement.

But the wierd thing is that, even though the temperature is so high, i dont experience any artifacts, BSODs nor any freezing, everything plays soomthly. So maybe the sensor is just damaged?
The warranty for the product is over.

Any answer is much appreciated.

@OP, better re-TIM it.
Artifacts, BSODs , freezing are trailers....your GPU might show you the FULL movie instead of trailers and previews, so get to work :)

when your sensors show 100+ temps then physically try touching the card's pcb...if you feel like your hand will burn then your sensors are correct as at 100c you can burn your skin...if you feel its tolerable and your hand is not burning then may be your sensors are acting up(i meant your gpu's sensors and not yours :P )...

Hey,

Thanks for the replies.

I removed and cleaned the heatsink and reapplied the thermal paste (from coolermaster, its the only branded one available here). Idle temps have reduced by 2-3 to around 62C, but otherwise no improvement, load temps are still around 100-105C after just 15 minutes of playthrough. The card does feel very hot on touching, so i guess my card has decided to show the movie without showing any trailers. :(

Any suggestions? I need the card to last atleast another 9 months :(.

Thanks in advance for any replies,

ntb
