Dear all..
I have loved hi-fi- audio systems since the earliest I remember.. We never were too rich to buy anything more than a midi system at home.. Today, I can afford a bit, and i seek your help.. Please do help and advise
  • Requirement: Home Theatre System..without too much clutter
  • Budget: Upto 70,000
  • Room Size: Living room..20x16
I have auditioned the Bose Cinemate GS II (about Rs. 60,000):
Pros- Great sound, looks great, only 2 speakers, less mess, easy connections, comes with a superb universal remote controller
Cons- 2.1 no matter what the company says about its 5.1 like sound (which in fact is really amazing), no HDMI input, cant render DTS-HD sounds

I also saw the Denon X500 AV receiver, with the Denon Sys 5.1 speakers (about Rs. 45,500)
Pros- Real 5.1 sound, HDMI input, looks neat
Cons- Not earth-shatteringly good sound, messy cabling

Could you suggest any other system that will fit in my budget?
Please help..
PS: I am a professional, working more than 10-12 hours, 6 days a week.. I am not an audiophile or purist, but I can appreciate good sound, and would like to have a good system for a relaxed weekend listening, as well as for my film DVDs
Thanks in anticipation

Bose is has excellent brand equity and quite easy to resell - but exorbitantly overpriced.

Look at Onkyo & Yamaha systems also. Both are quite decent.

I don't know if the Energy Take Classic 5.1 are available nowadays but come highly recommended - used to be available at Big Bazaar (was quite shocked to see them on display there actually!)

@adv5 You work 6 days a week so time will be an issue but I will still ask you to audition the systems. Sound being a subjective topic you will get hundreds of answers which might leave you confused. Just check that the brand has good service, no known issues with the particular set that you want to buy and then go for the one that your ears like.

Having said that I have heard good reviews of Yamaha home theaters. Check the YHT - 299 package.

Check this site for some possible combos with street prices.

This is another site to go through.

p.s. I am not an audiophile though like you I enjoy my weekend listening.

Get a kef q300, b6, paradigm atom/mini monitors, monitor audio Bs or similar speakers with a matching stereo amp and enjoy for the next 10 yrs.
They will all make a much better stereo option than a bose or similar setup

for 70k budget id suggest Usher S520 speakers and Denon x1000 / other AVRs

i personally own a Denon X1000 and Wharfedale diamond 121 , i tried ushers and they were better than my wharfeys , and would be well within your budget

Like you I too want to buy a clutter free 5.1 surround system and came across VIZIO S4251w-B4 5.1 Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer and Satellite Speakers. But Its not available in India (not to my knowledge). It has recd rave reviews on Amazon. Cheapest source is Cart2india. --->

The only hitch is NO WARRANTY or International warranty (which to me is same as no warranty, considering the size and weight). Maybe one of these days I am going to surprise myself and place the order.

check Yamaha v473 (or equal in Denon) for receiver. Wharfdale diamond series speaker for fronts bookshelf. You may also check boston acoustic.

Best place in India for "REALLY serious" audio stuff is HiFiMart - Contact Anil. Amazing deals and prices
