Hello

I just bought a modded wii from ebay from the deal of the week section.

Now, I have to play the game from back up channel. When I try to click my disc, it says disc not readable.

I contacted the seller , who says, that as its modded all games wud have to be played from back up channel.

Is the above normal. Pls help as I am noob when it comes to gaming.

Thanks

I suppose backup channel will be something related to game dumps on HDDs

If you have a not so original DVD of wii just pop it in and fire up the disc and see what it says, i suppose it should be playable.

I think someone owning a wiif will be able to tell properly. I have never played with wii

Btw can you post the ebay link you bought and what cost and what all you got ?

It seems the Wii you have got is soft modded and does not have a mod chip installed. Ensure that you have used good media and have burnt it at 4x. Also check the region compatibility (PAL/NTSC) for the games you are trying to load.

Spoke to the dealer today. Says he forgot some update and would send the update by mail and give directions to update it.

That would make channels operational but I would still have to play games thru back up channel only.

Keeping my fingers crossed...

does it show a homebrew channel there as well???? backup channel surely means its soft modded. You can play games thru the backup channel..or search thru the net...ull get someway out on how to see those games on the disc channel ;)

btw what difference does it make to you? playing thru backup channel or disk channel..the game data will anyhow be stored in the same way...and the disk read will be same for backup nehow..

^^ I had seen a modded wii here at the shop and it had something called "Homebrew channel". What does that mean and how do i know whether that wii was soft or hard (if that is what it is called) modded ??

it would most likely be soft modded.. Softmodding on wii nowadays is as good, if not better than chip modding, so dealers seem to be leveraging and saving the costs of installing a mod chip. Only drawback is that you might potentially update your system and screw up the soft modding.

^^ So we can do all the stuff with the soft modded wii as we can with chip modded right ?

Also what is this homebrew channel and what all things more can we do after modding the wii.

I mean i have a modded PS2 and i can also watch movies using SMS player on that.

For the softmodded wii, i have to ensure that i should never update if it tells me to. right ?

yup dont update it..or try and follow latest happening on the internet. For using homebrew you need an SD card. Can do a few things like watching streaming content/music, playing games on emulators like nes and snes, some ports like doom and quake, etc.
