Hello!

I have a Ga G31 mobo, which uses the Realtek 883 audio chip..

In windows, the driver would automatically prompt which speaker goes into which jack..

Anyway, I can get my front speakers to work in Ubuntu 9.04, but the speakers plugged into the line-in jack ( the rear speakers ) don't get any output..

I'v tried searching the net and have reached quite a few How-to's.. none help.. the max I was able to achieve was the get pulse audio to show a rear channel along with the front channel.. but that was linked to to the same front speaker..
PS: I'm an absolute linux newbie.. just started yesterday.. :)

Thanks!

You could try searching for / installing the pulse audio mixer package - I think its "pavucontrol" but this is a real hot topic (audio under ubuntu) anyway heh...

wow! Darkstar! How did you get that!?!?

And yeah.. I'v been reading all night about ubuntu and sound :P I'v tried pulse audio, alsamixer.. Dunno what else to try,

Btw, Will Drivers from the realtek site help? it says it's for ubuntu, but I don't know how to compile it :(

Thanks!

hmm.. I got something diff than that.. lemme try again.. should i do it from the terminal or from the add/remove thing?

EDIT:

Here are the things I see via the add/remove thing

Pulse Audio Manager

Device Manager

Volume Control

Volume Meter(Capture)

Volume Meter(Playback)

EDIT2:

Well, I added a few lines to the pulseaudio config ( changed number of channels from 2 to 4) after reading a thread on ubuntuforums..

So now I see this, but both front and rear are linked to my front speakers..

Oh, And I just realised that the left/right balance is also not working. :( Other than the audio part, I'm really loving linux! If only I can get this to work..

Keep clicking around on a few more buttons (I dont remember the exact location) till you find the config window with a long list of outputs to select/unselect... you can enable your line-in/front/rear etc in there... like the screenshot DarkStar posted...
